Baby Teeth
Digital teething chart
Yesterday we reached a supercool milestone: up to now 500 people paid us real money for our app to document their baby's teeth – that's unbelievable! We're so grateful for the trust they have in our work and that we have a valuable impact on people's lives!
We even got the first review in the App Store: 4 out of 5 stars, since we messed up the dates (didn't account for the day-month switch in US) but they're overall very happy with the app. That this person got out of their way and went into the App Store to write this review (we don't have a "Rate this app" popup in the app) is especially flattering!
Last week two persons wrote us about the exact same feature-wish they had: the possibility to change the orientation of the teeth' labels (dentists switch left and right). With the new update, released yesterday, we addressed that with a new settings screen that can be accessed with a simple swipe.

This is also the base for the next feature, which the most people asked for: being able to add multiple children. It's a testimonial for starting out super small, that such a non-brainer feature was not part of the 1.0 release and the app is still successful (and people are using it regularly).
In total we've made $542 which makes $375 in revenue after Apple's cut. The sales chart is very consistent and people regularly buy the app, with the exception of two crazy high spikes (71 and 54 sales in a single day) and I have no clue why they happened. We didn't do any marketing yet, there's no feature in the App Store and I can't find anybody online who may linked to our app...

After 20 long days, my iOS app is finally approved by Apple and now displayed in their wonderful App Store!

Since I don't have any time for marketing, I'm curious how the app performs in the next couple of weeks. My plan is to post the app to sites like Reddit, Product Hunt, Betalist, and others the next month or so – when I created a small one-page promotional website for the app and I'm further into the dense.design journey. That's because I think that the adventure I'm having could resonate with a lot of people and maybe even stur up some tweets or articles – in total increasing the attention for Baby Teeth, which in itself is a pretty small and non-flashy app. But in the greater context of this 12-products marathon, it means more. Let's see how this plays out!

Nice app and congratulations getting it approved! Did it take 20 days because you had some feedback from Apple? Or was it just waiting until all their engineers got back to work after WWDC? :D

Thanks so much, Roel! Yeah, it was actually a 20 days waiting time to get a response – but it was before WWDC happened, so maybe they were deep in preparations for the huge launch. :)
Btw: Hippo looks awesome, I'd love to betatest it. The landing page description and features sound ideal for me and I'd so pay for such an app!

Hmmkay, I was hoping to get Hippo approved in a week or so. I have to submit it soon I guess and find out :)
Thanks for your kind words on Hippo! If you like to test it, you can sign up via the landing page (if you didn't already) and I'll invite you soon!

Most of the times I had a response (yay or nay) within 1 or 2 days from the Apple Review Team – so that long waiting time is more of an exception than the norm!
Signed up for your betalist :)

Nice little app. I like your idea and execution. I’ll give it a try and let some friends know about it too.
What I’d love to see is a comparison with others. Like “kids who got their first tooth ‘here’, will get their next tooth ‘there’ in X days” :-)

Thanks Sascha!
On the roadmap I have the feature that shows you the average eruption times for each tooth, including you child's offset in time. This way you can see which teeth are most likely will come next. :)

congrats for getting approved, and what a beautiful little app!
Keep in mind that a landing page for a mobile app is a double edged sword, on one hand it will allow you to deliver your marketing message with greater freedom/creativity, on the other hand it will increase friction in your funnel because it adds an additional step before converting the customer. Perhaps you'd find the answer in a/b testing sending people to the landing page vs sending them to the app page and seeing how it affects your conversions.
Also you definitely don't want to get caught up optimizing the landing page and forgetting to optimize your app store page.
One last thing, maybe also consider a free model in which you capture emails/pixel data of users which then you can monetize with affiliate marketing for baby products. Just throwing ideas out there :) good luck-

Thanks so much for the insightful feedback, Ismail!
Currently the only traffic comes from within the App Store – via searches. For external promotion (like Product Hunt and the like) I'll create a super simple landing page, that's just a quick glance and then moves the user over to the App Store page.

Is there an ability to share each teeth appeared or all the mouth?
-
1
Currently it's just sharing of the current state of all teeth (as seen on the screenshots). But I'm planning to improve the sharing, so that if a new tooth errupted, you'll be able to create a share-screenshot that is focussed on that single tooth. :)

If you required review on your app I could help publish it in one of our blog, which ll give you more visibility.
About
Typical teething charts are mostly ugly and on paper or in a PDF. My goal is to make capturing those precious dates a delightful and simple experience.

Very cute teeth. Congrats!
Well done!
Thanks Jviaches! Wish you all the best for the last push for ProjScope to the beta. :)
Appreciate it! Working very hard to deliver something useful :)
This is pretty cool. Love the look of the app as well. Congrats!
That's one of the biggest selling points for users it seems, the looks — thanks for the compliment, Nash. :)
That's so cool, I love the fact that you can make money from this kind of thing! 💪
Yes! As makers we're surrounded by maker-problems and digital stuff that could be optimized, which makes it hard look past them and see what other problems we're having everyday life.
But the effort to look further is rewarded, because many of those everyday problems can be solved super easily with technology.
