Refreshingly simple framework for evaluating startups
Like any good idea, this one came to me after a stiff swig of a beverage in a dimly lit bar.
I loved evaluating startups and businesses as both a founder and investor. And, in my experience doing so, I found myself constantly framing opportunities around a few simple models: its "business equation", unit economics, and flywheels.
Through this simple framework, I could explore potential trajectories of the business or market. I could evaluate high-level levers, identify critical metrics, estimate growth trajectories, and more.
I found that the simpler I could explain each business through the models, the more persuasive the ideas were. They should fit on "the back of a napkin".
In doing this for lots of businesses I can identify good businesses and contextualize trends across markets worth paying attention to. I'm not exactly sure what this will become, but I think producing content in this format could be stimulating and engaging.
About
I love evaluating businesses opportunities as a founder and an investor. In doing this, I have found myself trying to distill everything down to a few simple models. I'm excited to explore this framework more in public.
