100,000 API Requests!

My product is an API service for generating images. A few days ago it blew past the 100k requests mark after about 4 months since launch.

It's kind of crazy to think that there are 100,000 images out there floating around on websites / social media that have been generated by Bannerbear.com!

So cool! I'd love to see a sort of technical/implementation roadmap from you. What technologies you used, big technical barriers you encountered, etc.

      It’s a vanilla Rails app!

Rails FTW! It’s still a great framework. What DB/Hosting/caching setup are you using?

          Great Milestone!
can you please share your tech stack?
how many servers to you need for such a number ?

    Amazing milestone — congrats!!!

Looks like a lovely service, really cool to see it become successsful. Did you design the layouts yourself?

I like the design, logo and colour scheme, and the little details like the section curves. What convinced you that there was a market for such a tool? How many months has it taken for you to get this far? Regarding the banner editor what technologies are you using here?

  5. 1

    who are the customers?

This is a really good product - one of those “why can’t I think of stuff like that” ideas

Awesome product. Such niche. I love the conversion from tweet to insta image. Kudos and wish you good luck.

Well done, how did you manage to get such good traction in such little time.

    1. 2

I launched Bannerbear in January... it’s now 6 months later so I don’t think this is what I would call a “little time”. I’ve hustled hard over the last 6 months!

Congrats! Could you give an example of your "hustle" that brought you some traction in user acquisition? A link to the viral blog article, Google Ads, whatever.

Nice work, @yongfook - how is the API built? I mean language, platform, etc.?

    1. 2

I believe rails is @yongfook's weapon of choice.

    This is an amazing product....congrats..

if you don't mind me asking I am building a api based service as well... What tools did you use to limit users api request as per their pricing tier...right now I am implementing it on the application level...did you use any service ??

    1. 1

Every API request is authenticated, so there's an application-level check whenever a user posts a request - it checks against the quota before allowing the request to continue.

It wasn't distasteful! I've enjoyed seeing your posts about BB! I wish you luck also. Didn't mean to poke the bear :D !

How very distasteful to promote a competing product in my thread :)

Still, I wish you the best of luck in launching your MVP and hope you learn a few lessons along the way by reading my posts. 👍🏻
