Find the best barbershops, anywhere
Barberhead is a website made up of content submitted by its users. Barbershop owners can submit their barbershop to the city where it is located. The more traffic Barberhead gets, the more submissions it will get.
I've let the project run with no input for over a year now, but lately, I've found that I've never submitted a sitemap for all of the dynamic user-submitted content. So that's what I did and the results speak for themselves! I've created an auto-generated sitemap that updates itself every now and then. And submitted it to Google, Bing, and some other random search engines.

Create unique titles, descriptions, and meta tags for each page.

I created a quick little web app called BARBERHEAD that shows the best barbershops in your city (and any other city) based on the popularity, rating and the number of reviews.
We all know the feels of a low to mediocre skilled barber messing up your valuable hair. Getting a GOOD haircut from a SKILLED barber increases your confidence points by +500.
Since I travel a lot, I change my barbers quite often. It does take a minute for me to research the best barbershops in the city that I'm currently in. I created this tool to easily filter the good from the bad so I can make a quick decision from the top barbers in a city.

Are you sure it was the sitemap that improved the SEO performance? As far as I know, it's not as relevant nowadays as it used to be. Maybe the simple fact that you updated your website in some way made it go up in rankings.
I haven't updated the website until the traffic spiked.
Most of the content is user-submitted, auto-generated, and dynamic.
I think the problem may have been that the internal page linking is not the most optimal. This leads to the Google bot not accessing and listing many of the sub or child pages. Submitting a sitemap may have made Google aware that the pages exist.
Great.. awesome story. what tool did you use to autogenerate the sitemap? and submit? I would that that the crawlers visit anyway every so often and scan the sitemap file for updates.
Yes, you don't have to resubmit it
But I use a cron job to fetch all objects from the database and add new ones into the sitemap.
