BARK – AI Pet Nutritionist

I have spent several years in US and had the opportunity to build several pet food and treats across multiple price points —from premium products to everyday value brands.

One question kept coming back to me:

If so many products have similar ingredients and make similar claims, how is a pet parent supposed to know what’s actually different?

Another thing I noticed was even more concerning.

Sometimes an ingredient that could matter to a pet—especially one with sensitivities or allergies—isn’t highlighted on the front of the pack. It’s buried in a long ingredient list on the back, written in small text. By the time many pet parents realize it, it’s often because their pet didn’t react well.

As pet parents, we don’t get to ask our dogs or cats how they’re feeling. We pay attention to the little things—their energy, their excitement, their appetite, and sometimes the signs that something isn’t right.

I built BARK because I wanted to make one part of that journey a little easier.

BARK helps explain pet food ingredient lists in plain language, highlights ingredients that may deserve a closer look, and provides insights using AAFCO ingredient definitions and publicly available nutritional guidance. The goal isn’t to replace your veterinarian or tell you what to buy. It’s to help you better understand what’s going into your pet’s bowl so you can make more informed decisions.

This is an early prototype, and I’m sharing it because I’d rather build it with pet parents than for pet parents.
