March 15, 2022 Bathtimer Hits 500 Installs!

~390 on Android, and ~110 on iOS.

This was never meant to hit 500 installs. Early on in my notion notes, I wrote down a page that I was going to drop the project and pursue another one. It was around when I had 100 installs and was titled "One Last Hurrah," as I was making one last push for the project before quitting it. I saw Bathtimer as a a prospect with low potential as well as an opportunity cost for better, more interesting projects.

However, there was a page immediately following that one that said "Nevermind... I’m going to keep on going." What changed? A few things:

  • I truly felt that I captured lightning in a bottle. The app was truly niche and it really did help people.
  • I dislike quitting if I haven't done everything in my power to save the project. I'm okay with failing, just make it for any reason other than "I gave up." Before this project, I had a string of projects that died early, and hated my habit of picking up new things and not ever "finishing through" with any single project.

It's been super fun and rewarding so far (I also reap the benefits as a user of my own app!). I hope this app goes far. As a matter of fact, I'm going to shout this... I want to reach 100,000 installs!!!

February 23, 2022 Published on iOS App Store

After some early success with the Android release, I decided it was worth it to purchase the Apple Developer License and publish on the App Store.

I'd always had some hesitation with serious marketing when I was only capturing ~half of my potential audience, but now I can make a more serious marketing push!

January 23, 2022 Launched on ProductHunt

Today was the first time launching on ProductHunt. Didn't do anything fancy in terms of preparation, as it was my first PH launch ever. All I did was wait until 12am to post it (not sure if that actually does anything).

If you've been using Bathtimer and found it useful, I would really appreciate an upvote! Thanks!

Nice, congrats on the launch. What about one for kids to get the to stick to their routines?

    Morning:

    • Preparing backpack for school
    • Breakfast
    • Comb hair
    • Brush teeth

    And evening:

    • Clean up / put toys back to place
    • Snack
    • Brush teeth
    • bed

Well, you see the point. If you can help to ease the burden of parents, you're likely to make some sales.

      Thanks martdi!

That sounds like it could be a cool idea, but may be a bit too far from what I'm doing. For now, I'll the plan is to dominate my niche before expanding, but I like the idea.

January 11, 2022 Published to Play Store

After about 3 months of (on-and-off) development, I published the app to the Play Store. During the building phase, there was perhaps a bit too much polishing and scope creep affecting the launch date. I do plan to publish to the iOS App Store if the experiment with the Play Store proves promising.

About

I always had a problem of taking long showers, so I decided to use my development skills and build a solution! Essentially, it's an interval timer that "ding"s when it's time to move onto the next step of the shower.
