September 16, 2020 10 users!

A small milestone, but exciting nonetheless. We now have 10 users and counting on the platform. All of them have registered a domain and hooked their websites up to our analytics script. Exciting!

For the coming weeks, I'll be focussing on the marketing side to build the user base further and better articulate our value proposition vs the competition.

September 11, 2020 Added drill-downs

Today we released a feature which we think really pushes beampipe forward in terms of analytical power: drill-downs.

You can now apply filters to subset your traffic data by country, referrer and geographical location. These show up throughout the dashboard which is really helpful for quickly finding trends (think "What percentage of users from twitter sign up?").

If you're interested, have a play with our live demo here: https://beampipe.io/domain/beampipe.io

September 2, 2020 Relaunched our landing page

This is probably the 3rd or 4th iteration and every time I go around the loop I look at the previous version and think "that looks terrible" which is hopefully a good sign :-)

Wanted particularly to highlight features that are unique to beampipe (vs competitors like plausible and fathom). Still work to do here so keen to hear feedback. In particular I think I need to get better at articulating the value proposition to users.

August 12, 2020 First free sign up

Have spent the last week or so forcing myself to focus on marketing, SEO and traffic growth (a big part of what I'm hoping to learn with this project).

Paid off when I got a first organic sign up to the free tier. Feels good! Still clearly a lot of work to be done to improve the marketing copy and try to reach more eyeballs.

August 1, 2020 Integrated Stripe for subscriptions

I'm actually not expecting to get paid subscriptions just yet but wanted to get this figured out anyway (partly cause I've never done it before).

I expected it to be a lot more of a pain than it was. Got the integration working within about 3-4 hours of coding.

July 16, 2020 First deployed version

Started building with Kotlin, Micronaut, TimescaleDB, NextJS, Typescript and React. Have used these for a few side projects which helped me to get started.

The first iteration (sans auth, signup etc) was deployed within about 12 hours of work. Got a couple of friends to beta test by hooking up their small sites. Also dogfooding the analytics for https://beampipe.io itself.

About

Beampipe seeks to be a privacy-conscious, powerful web analytics tool geared particularly towards SaaS products. I'm building it because existing options like fathom or plausible felt a bit too simple for my needs.
