The missing survey design toolkit

March 8, 2021 Officially launched our product!!

@tzeying and I are excited to announce that we've officially launched our survey research question bank! This MVP is our first step in addressing some of the problems that plague survey design. We wanted to start with creating a free, open-sourced database of survey questions that is accessible to all levels of researchers, whether you have no idea what you're doing or you're an experienced pro.

In this launch, we've pushed a few updates to our website + finally made the question bank public. There are still a few features we're working out, but we'd been working on it behind the scenes for a while (&had to take a few personal breaks here and there), so it's extremely satisfying to actually make it public!!!

March 7, 2021 Blog Post #6 Published

Okay, we took a long break from working on Bellini Slushie (it's been almost a year since we posted an update on IH!) but we've been working on it in full swing and are preparing to launch in the next few days!!

In preparation for launch, we've written 6 new blogs posts. Some that are directly related to the launch, and some that aren't. We published the first of these blogs today -

"What are Likert Scales and how do I use them in my survey?"

Check out this blog, plus the others on our page, if you're interested in reading more on survey best practices.

April 22, 2020 Blog Post #4 Published

After a brief respite dealing with disruptions covid-19 has been causing in our lives, we're back and working full-steam ahead on our project!

Our first update in a while: finally publishing our latest blog post , titled: Why do I still need to care about demographics survey data? (which we originally wrote in Feb. Whoops!)

Check out this blog, plus the others on our page, if you're interested in reading more on surveying best practices.

February 29, 2020 Used our research to update our site

We're big on testing and learning, so our site was originally vague with descriptions and pictures. We wanted to put out the idea first and then figure out the best direction based on feedback.

After spending time validating our product with our target market, we figured out the most important things to highlight on the page and build out for our product first.

You can check it out our new website here!

February 21, 2020 We grew our waitlist/mail list to 150+ in a week

You can do it too! More about how to do it for free here: http://bit.ly/37PAIeO

To validate our product / ideas, we’ve been building up our mailing / waitlist on our marketing site.

To supercharge it, we decided to launched a survey to gauge interest and build out our subscribers.

The survey confirmed our persona, problem intensity and demonstrated a strong willingness to use our product. It’s exciting when your target market see your product and then get excited about it too!!!

January 31, 2020 About page is live (and bug free)

This took a few days of QAing (there was a problem with test environment --> production), but Tzeying was finally able to find and fix the issues. Everything should work smoothly now on the entire site (we hope, if you read this and find an issue - let us know).

Now we just need to update the content on the home page and we'll be one step closer to having a cohesive story across the site.

🎉🍸🎉🍸🎉🍸 woo hooooo! We did it!

January 25, 2020 Moved content off of Medium to our in-house blog

We went back and forth about moving any written content off of third-party sites (because the distribution and potential reach!). We made the decision to move blog posts to our in-house site because we wanted to control the content, traffic, and layout of the page more in the end.

We're still learning the part about writing and publishing articles in a quick-turn around fashion, but in the meantime we have our own place to publish now :)

As another note -
Tzeying has been publishing some WIP updates, to give a little insight into her process and share some of her thoughts. Check our her thread if you're interested in what it takes to create a blog https://twitter.com/tzeyingcheng/status/1216750965983858689?s=20

Bravo...I know all the moving of content around can be a pain, but hopefully worthy it in the end!

      yes definitely!!

September 26, 2019 Can you say landing page? We can!

Because we're mostly working on this on the weekends and/or after work, one of the first things we did (even before we had a name) was to map out Bellini's development plan. Although things are bound to change, we had plans from the realistic MVP to our idealistic end-goal.

Sometime in mid-September, we hit our first big milestone - we built a landing page. I will give the majority of the credit to Tzeying, although I do say I give a lot of great constructive feedback (Tzeying would probably disagree but shh).

We decided to keep on brand with the drinks theme on the page because we want to make research a little more playful.

September 20, 2019 Wrote our second blog post on surveying

It may not seem like much, but writing more in depth articles in a timely matter is not something either of us are good at. So we were extremely happy when we finally finished writing the second article.

It's a topic that's near and dear to us: survey design. Although there are a ton of articles around how to write surveys, we wanted to (hopefully) approach it in a more down-to-earth way.

You can check out our article on indiehackers here and let us know what you think!

September 2, 2019 We pick a (ridiculous, but fun!) name

Two points on us:

  • We really only have time after work, so we'd hang out at our favorite bar and brainstorm long term product roadmap vs realistic MVP, user stories, "write" our next article, etc.

  • We are notorious for ridiculous ideas (re: all work projects we jokingly name...then it seriously catches on ).

With these things in mind in mind, it's no surprise that while working one night, we picked a name for our project based off of a hilarious drink name (a sour beer, which Ali loves and Tzeying hates).

Thus, BelliniSlushie (and it's twitter account) were born that night.
