BigTeam

Selling into the enterprise wasn't going so well. We got paying customers, but the entire process felt like pushing a rock up a hill. The TechStars stipend was running out so we had our backs up against the wall.

We reflected on our mission to make "feedback" seamless and easy for professionals, which allowed us widen the scope of who a professional is. We went through the motion of seeing whether small businesses and startups would benefit as much if not more than employees and big companies, and it turned out that the majority of website leads were from founders and small biz owners!

We are going to deliberately start revamping the codebase, website, pricing model and trying to figure out how to get our product in the "small guys" hands.

The team is actually much more excited about serving this market, and would rather us be "product-led" rather than having to build a big sales team.

We had been denied quite a few times, but somehow made it through the initial screening period and got accepted.

The small stipend allowed my engineer to come on full-time and let me pay off a little credit card debt that I had accumulated for some of the technologies we were using.

We got a few big companies to login and create accounts. They weren't super impressed, but gave us good feedback.

We installed tracking code so we could get a better feel for how they were using the platform and where they got stuck so we didn't have to rely only on their feedback.

The idea for BigTeam came while I was still running a consultancy. We used some of the revenue to build the prototype, but when it was built, I couldn't stop thinking about it and had to leave my business to pursue BigTeam. I started working with my lead engineer at this time.
