April 2, 2021 Launch on ProductHunt

A few weeks ago I launched my app on the Mac App Store and on IH. My friends were telling me to put it on ProductHunt too, but I was a bit scared to do that.

I had a feeling my product wasn't unique enough yet. Today they finally convinced me to just do it and care about the uniqueness later. So here I am, check it out: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/billable-time-tracker-for-mac/maker-invite?code=gN2IDO

March 5, 2021 My first paying customer!

A few weeks ago I launched my time tracker app to the Mac App Store. After working on it for more than a year it was quite an accomplishment to finally be able to put something on the App Store for the public. Downloads and signups were slowly coming in and I was able to talk to some actual users.

One of them suggested a feature to me which I implemented a few days later. When I emailed him to task what he thought about it he gave me his opinion and also said he subscribed last week! I was like: WHAT?! Last week? Paddle must be broken because I didn't receive any alert.

I signed in to Paddle and yep, there it was. My balance was no longer showing €0. I was not expecting it and also didn't have any alerts configured so I didn't even realise I got my first paying customer. So nice to see someone actually willing to pay for something you created. Very happy and even more motivated to keep working on it.

February 3, 2021 Billable for Mac released on the App Store

After many months of development, I finally managed to finish the first version of the Billable Mac App and it was accepted to the Mac App Store.

When I started developing Billable (web app) I quickly discovered that I needed a Mac App to always run in the menu bar. This way I never forget to turn on or off a timer. And it's just convenient to have an app on your Mac instead of going to the browser.

I decided to use Electron because that didn't require me to learn a new language. It enabled me to share code between the web frontend and desktop app. Electron also offers a Windows built, so that will be coming in the near future too.

It was a challenge to find a version that I felt comfortable releasing. I always find more ideas to add to the first version, postponing the release. But for now it's ready and available in the Mac App Store.

About

As a freelance developer I've been tracking my time in multiple different apps. I understand how helpful these can be. While searching for ideas, I figured why not built an app that I personally need and use everyday.
