BiteSpend

AI receipt scanner that tracks where your food money goes

Visit Website
April 18, 2026 I need a couple more Android beta testers to clear Google Play's closed testing gate — here's what I built

I'm building BiteSpend solo — an app that scans your grocery and restaurant receipts with AI and tracks where your food money actually goes.

The problem: I kept looking at our credit card statement — "$900 on food this month" — with zero idea what we actually bought. Credit card apps show store totals, not items. Spreadsheets die by week 2. ChatGPT can read one receipt but doesn't track anything.

What it does:

  • Scan a receipt → AI extracts every item and price.

  • Track over time → Tells you "eggs are $2 cheaper at Aldi" and "you spend 40% more on Fridays."

  • Budgeting → Set a budget and it tells you when you're on pace to blow it.

Where I'm at:

  • 4 beta testers actively scanning (Trader Joe's, Costco, Askews Foods).

  • Early feedback: "Better receipt scanning than Expensify."

  • Shipping fixes within hours of feedback.

  • Google Play Requirement: Requires 12 testers on closed testing for 14 days before I can go public.

Tech stack: React Native + Expo, Express/tRPC backend, Claude Haiku

The ask: If you're on Android and buy groceries, I'd love a beta tester: https://bitespend.com/beta

The app is free — scan receipts, set a budget, track spending. Takes 30 seconds to sign up.

Happy to answer anything about the build, the AI receipt extraction, or the business model.
