Black Screen Tool
Free fullscreen screen colors for monitor testing, focus and
I recently worked on a simple browser-based utility called Black Screen.
The idea came from a basic problem: common display tasks like checking dead pixels, testing backlight bleed, darkening a second monitor, or opening a clean fullscreen color should not require installing another app.
The main challenge was keeping the experience extremely simple. A user should be able to open the site, choose a screen color, enter fullscreen mode, and use it immediately.
The project now includes black and other solid-color screens for display testing, OLED use, monitor cleaning, distraction reduction, and a few other visual tasks.
One thing I learned while building it is that small utility products benefit a lot from reducing friction. No signup, no onboarding flow, and no unnecessary settings can sometimes be a feature by itself.
I’m still improving the project and would be interested in feedback from other makers on what screen-testing or display utilities would be useful to add next.
