Block Lab

More and more WordPress developers were (and still are) transitioning to the block editor. Block Lab was helping them do this. In late 2019 we began talks with WP Engine on what it would look like for our team to join them and continue the work we were doing underneath their Genesis brand. In April we did just that. Luke, Ryan, and I are now full-time building the tech we began with Block Lab!
Very excited for the future.

We've changed the name and org for the Open Source plugin on github. The new home for our core code is now -> https://github.com/getblocklab/block-lab

We've almost finished on core/launch features and have been moving through some bugs. Gutenberg is a very fast-moving beast and keep up with the daily changes has proved a challenge.
Submitting to the WordPress.org plugin repo this week and anticipate anything from a 1-7 day review.

The team began putting ides together on how we can remove completely the dependancy on a user knowing how to code. The plugin already reduces the difficulty of building a custom Gutenberg block way way down. Its current form still does, however, require opening up a text editor and writing some code. Albeit very simple code.
Our longer term plans are to bring this template building experience completely in to the WordPress admin. There are many ways we could do this, of which most are actually terrible! Our initial ideas are looking good though and we're planing on gathering user insight on these in the coming 6 months.

We're about half a dozen issues/bugs away from having v1.0 ready for launch.
