Blokfeed
Simplifying your crypto news experience
Over the past month I've reworked my SEO titles, descriptions, and added additional tags in order to better boost my search ranking... I have to say, I'm not the strongest in this area, but after researching many sites I've like, I've implemented many of the same tags an strategies.
And I have to say, I've actually seen an uptick in daily users! And serves as a reminder that one shouldn't forget about SEO.
I also believe how I'm generating content is slowly helping a well when it comes to rank. I've added syndication of daily briefs to twitter and facebook as well as part of a greater SEO strategy.
Pretty much sums up what I've been updating over the month. I'm excited to see how it grows.
Interested in how I syndicate the daily briefs? Leave me a comment!
Recently pushed visual updates to the list view for daily briefs. The beta release was just displaying text, which wasn't very engaging. So built a process to select images randomly to apply to the daily brief.
Found this to be more engaging and keeps with the same look and feel to the article list.

I recently released the beta version of daily briefs to Blokfeed to further help users to keep up with the crypto news. It provides quick snapshots of the market, fear and greed index, and trending topics on Blokfeed.
Briefs are a combination of multiple sources which are pulled together using a scheduled lambda on AWS. I learned the most from building out a cosine similarity handler to help determine trending topics.
I'm excited to continue building out daily briefs and further improving how users keep up with crypto news!
Check them out today and let me know your thoughts!

After deploying saved search emails and getting more users signed up, I started looking into more insights in regards to the email engagement. Luckily AWS SES has some nice features that allow you to build SNS and redirect tracking into your emails allowing you to gather these engagement insights.
With that said, after rolling this out from scratch, I would suggest you have a good schema for event or action tracking which is flexible enough from emails to onsite tracking.
This is the base of how I track insights...
service_name
event_name (<source>.<location>.<action>)
level (severity)
context (object containing data for particular log)
created_ts
Simple yet effective.
Let me know your thoughts or services you use!

After a busy couple of weeks I'm excited to announce the release of the saved search functionality for Blokfeed! This will allow you to saved search phrases and filters so you can easily come back to them in the future. In addition to saving them you will also receive daily emails containing articles that met your search and filter criteria!
To check it out go to Blokfeed, sign up, and start searching and filtering articles. A save icon will appear where you can click and save the search and filter criteria!
While building out this functionality I was able to get my hands dirty with AWS Simple Email Service. This was the first time I used the service. Main reasons for choosing the service was 1) to remain in the AWS ecosystem, 2) good cost model for the purpose of the email, 3) may be switching my current companies emails over to the service so this provided a good risk free way to explore the service.

Always moving forward, I've move the main search and filter functionality to the homepage. This allows users to more easily get the most out of Blokfeed.
In addition to moving more functionality to the home page, I've started including images from the ingested feeds. Some minor issues with feeds where images aren't provided, but working through those. Main reason for this is to have more engaging content, instead of only having text on the site.
So stay tuned for more user-centric functionality!

Blokfeed when initially launched had limited search capabilities, which was causing some issues for users who were trying to be more specific with their searches. So, I updated the search handler to account for phrases and excluding terms.
Functionality is still limited, but provides a better user experience than before.
To use :
Phrase : "<phrase>"
Exclude : -<phrase>

Today, I launched the MVP of Blokfeed. I had some bumps in the road along then way. Despite missing some features I wanted to initially have as a MVP, I found the base site still provided value, so decided to launch.
I found over the years, that it's better to launch (go live) early in the process to keep up momentum.

I was spending too much time sifting through news channels to find the latest news. So I decided to create a blockchain and cryptocurrency focused news aggregator.
