Blue Lang
80/20 Language learning
TLDR: 80/20 approach to language learning and eradicating everything that does not bring you to the point of you being able to teach yourself
"why would you bother, there is already Duolingo?" Is a question I had to answer many times and to answer it quite frankly because I think Duolingo is not very good and in essence gamified flashcards.
First of all what should a language learning app do?
in my opinion bring you as fast as possible to the point where you can engage with content in that language on your own so you can continue learning on your own.
In other words, teach you how to teach yourself.
how to do that as fast as possible?
by eradicating everything that is not necessary.
No writing, minimal grammar and as many learning opportunities as possible so the brain has more examples to acquire the language
Also restricting the vocabulary to the most essential, the goal of the program should not be to teach you everything you need in every situation but to understand 70% to 80% of normal conversations, your brain can then learn the rest by consuming content you actually want to consume.
How should the material be reached?
In my opinion in the form of dialogs and with a lot of repetition. Repeating the same word in different contexts makes it a lot easier for you to pick up the vocabulary.
So the idea for https://lang.blue was born.
