Boardist
Personal workspace for all the data
We launched Boardist on ProductHunt and Hacker News!
As a result, we got 3k pageviews, ~300 new users and first subscribers.
Here are a few lessons I learned:
Start building relations with a community before the launch. Even on early-stage it possible to find loyal audiences who will like and support the product.
Do not over-optimize the product. I'm sure it's a well-known fact but I ignored it multiple times for no reason.
Boardist provided a very convenient way of storing the data and after year and a half, I found a time to develop ready to use service.
Main goals before the release:
- Stability. Codebase moved to Typescript and all UI has e2e tests coverage
- Change the database from RethinkDB to PostgreSQL. RethingDB was a bottleneck for fast development
- Security. Close endpoints per user and secure servers

In a month I finished a prototype with all main features as data storage and task planning.
Everything worked well but wasn't ready for use by other people.
I joined another company and started using the service for my own need, Boardist was in maintenance mode

I had some free time and wanted to learn something new.
Quickly I noticed how inconvenient to store bookmarks and notes in different places.
After hours of research, I found a few interesting ideas but all of them didn't cover what I needed.
Boardist idea born 💡
