Profitable, at last!
by Lane WagnerQ1 2023 has been the first profitable quarter for Boot.dev! That's after paying myself and my employee's salaries, which are of course our biggest expenses. A couple key metrics:
- I launched Boot.dev (then called Qvault classroom) in March 2020 at the start of the pandemic as a side project
- In January 2022 we were making $1,000/mo
- In Summer 2022 we were making $6,000/mo and I raised $330,000 to go full time from an angel investor with the goal to simply become profitable quickly and never raise again
- Q1 2023 we are now profitable!

In this year (2023) the goal is to continually be profitable while raising salaries for myself and my employee!

I have a few questions revolving around MVPs:
- How long did it take for you to complete the first MVP?
- How satisfied or unsatisfied were you with the first MVP?
- What type of feedback did you receive on it? Were they obvious fixes or did the feedback end up changing things drastically?

- Very quick - about a month to build the platform and the first iteration of the first course. But it kinda sucked.... it's so much better now
- Unsatisfied, but tbh I didn't yet have the skills to make it much better. It wasn't a time problem, but an experience problem
- I can't remember specifics from back then, but yeah I've been talking to users 1 on 1 all along
