I ran our first mini google and facebook ad campaign (< $100) to give us a little insight of the demand of our app. We got 3 users to join our waitlist! It pushed me to keep grinding away to try to meet my launch deadline.

I am looking for help with marketing the app. We are 3 months out from launch and are now trying to figure out what our strategy should be. Being a solo founder with no marketing experience, I need all the help I can get!

Here are some tactics which I would like to share with you:

We all publish relevant content but do they create engagement, to make sure about it, it is very important to share your content with the audience through multiple platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, Mix etc.
You can always repost it and reschedule so this way you can get more views on your website.

Also, to manage my publish article I have used buffer chrome plugin which helps to schedule and reposts my article.

The other fastest approach you may apply by contacting your ideal customer profile and offering them about your product. You can use a tool like AeroLeads which can help to find email address and phone number of the prospects and you can contact them and ask their feedback on your product.

Seems like the general advice to you has been to create a blog strategy. Not tooting my own horn, but rather a friend's horn lol. His name is Matt and he started a blog-writing startup called Scribble. They just launched their version 2.0 on Product Hunt. I recommend 👉(https://www.producthunt.com/posts/scribble-2-0)

Also @ OP, I'm confused. Is BrewUI actually for beer or do you create UI or do you create UI just for beer-making companies...?

      1. 1

Heh maybe I need make my landing page a little more clear. We are a set of tools for people who brew beer at home. Advanced homebrewing gets pretty complex and most brewers at that stage start relying on tools like mine. Unfortunately this pastime is woefully underserved. Either the tools are spread across many websites or the more comprehensive apps are extremely hard to use. We want to be the user interface of homebrewing.

    Hi Noah,
Could you expand a bit about your current social accounts and on what you did so far? Additionally, by launch do you mean PH launch or just the release of your app?

    1. 1

Oh I see that it's BrewUI now.

One immediate thing you ought to do, imo, is create social media presence. Practically meaning that you could open a branded Twitter and start following and networking with people in your niche. It really isn't hard to catch the attention of people especially not in a tight niche like beer brewing.

Another would be posting in appropriate forums, with the first one coming to mind is Reddit. I personally think that a honest, actually-authentic post on an appropriate subreddit can do wonders here.
Other than that you should of course prepare for a Product Hunt launch, if you aren't already.

      Hope this helps.

It does! It validates my idea of posting to the Reddit community with a series of technical blog post. Thanks for the reply.

        1. 1

Do this. I created Shipharder.com and the first (evergreen) blog post I submitted to relevant Reddit, LinkedIn (timeline and specific groups), Facebook(timeline and specific groups), Dev.To and Indiehackers.

This resulted in 1000+ views within the first 24 hours (post it at the right time to increase your success).

I'm working on a course that helps to use tools to plan sharing and resharing and creating content to get attraction. It's in Dutch but you can still subscribe (i'll be creating an English version if it works out)

How can you get talking to your target market/brewers?

    1. 1

I love the technical side of brewing. Understanding the formulas of estimating things like abv, ibu and original gravity. I am thinking about breaking down those formulas in a series of blog posts and posting them to homebrwing communities like Reddit. I think it might be of interest of my target customers.

What do you think of that idea? Being three months out from launch, is it to early or to late to do something like that?

      1. 1

I know nothing about brewing, but what you say about the blog posts sounds interesting. Is it something brewers struggle with? How can you make the posts really useful? Perhaps provide cheatsheets of the formulas?

Use it as an excuse/driver for people to sign up to an email list.

I don't think it is too early or too late. If you are posting in places like reddit, it can be useful that they know you before hand. And perhaps post about other stuff that isn't yours too.

Perhaps at the end of the series you could provide a condensed version fo the formulas?

I have a friend who makes Mead, is your thing just for beer?

        1. 1

The idea is to start with beer and soon after move into mead/wine/cider.

I think breaking down the formulas to show how they work and giving working example on github would be pretty engaging. The formulas are not trade secret, they are out there for anyone to use. But they are complex enough that brewers use them blindly and trust they work.

Thanks for the info, that’s really helpful.

Happy to help. What' level of support are you expecting?

I am 3 months out from launch. At this point in the game what would you be doing from a marketing standpoint? To keep things simple let’s say just your top 3.

I Actually published two blogpost on medium that explain all the steps I followed from Ideation to landing page and then from landing to my first 1000 visitors (and 100 beta testers).

        1. 1

Oh perfect. I already checked out the '1000 visitors' article. Great info. I will take a look at the other link. Thanks!

Hey @njhamann, nice job with the app.

I believe that a good idea for your business might be a similar approach to what BlueBottleCoffee has done with their coffee-brewing guides. Of course, it is a more long-game approach but I believe it can bring you significant traffic.

Also, try to target the online and offline places where beer brewing lovers are spending their time, whether it is Youtube, some specific forums, etc.

Lastly, check out Quora as it can work as a great source of leads and traffic in your case. Look out for specific questions which your product directly corresponds to.

    Hope this helps!
If you need help with understanding or executing any of the above tips message me back and I'll be glad to help you!

    nobody CARES!!!!!!!!

March 26, 2019 Quick BrewUI origin story

I have been brewing beer for 2 years and the idea came to me while dragging my laptop out to the garage to prep for our brew day. I realize I could make an app that was more comprehensive, had better UX, and was mobile friendly. For a pastime as complex as home brewing, it has been woefully underserved from a software standpoint.
