Brooklet
Track anything.
I have been working on a New Year's Resolution marketing campaign for Brooklet with the Youtuber Jem. She produced this excellent video advertising Brooklet. I also added a handful of features to the app for New Year's resolutions.
So far around 11000 people viewed the video, 525 have signed up in the app, 6 have signed up for the premium subscription.
This is great but for the price of the video ($1k), it's not worth it yet. However, I think other influencers would charge less. People are still signing up so this number could change in the coming days.
The paid version of Brooklet just got accepted to the app store after 1 rejection. The things that I ran into were:
-
Add this fine print: "Cancel subscription any time. Subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period by going to your iOS Account Settings after purchase. Payment will be charged to iTunes Account. Any unused portion of free trial period, if offered, will be forfeited when you purchase a subscription."
-
Include Terms of Service and Privacy Policy on the purchase page.
The New Year's resolution marketing campaign is ready to launch at the end of the year. Daily active users have been trending upwards for 2 months. Brooklet is poised to make it's first dollar!

There are a handful of users who were using the Brooklet every day who then dropped off after 3 weeks - 1.5 months. I was understandably bummed.
Since then I've created a BUNCH of new features and have just started dripping out update emails letting people know about the new features.
34% (~100 people) of users on the mailing list opened the latest email, and within 2 days of sending it, 6 users returned to the app!
This is enough validation for me to continue sending weekly emails to continue trying to keep Brooklet on the mind of those users who loved the app at some point.
I hope this tidbit helps one of you!

I have been working with advisors who have successfully started other companies. The feedback the provide is thoughtful and helpful. They are helping me understand what is important to focus on next.
- Marketing to the right people to grow my user base so that I can get more feedback.
- Obsess over making my designs appealing to my audience.
Brooklet is constantly improving so check it out.

After months of work and a lot of learning, I'm proud to announce the public release of Brooklet! Download it now!
I believe that building a daily habit of self-tracking can help us improve ourselves. I've been using it to learn about my eating habits, migraine frequency, severity and symptoms, and social activities.
What will you track?

After doing a very small amount of promotion I was able to get a handful of users interested in trying the Brooklet. Shortly after I started getting reports of a bug for new users. They were unable to create Streams, the main thing the app is supposed to do.
I hunted down the bug, fixed it and tested it.
Bugs are inevitable. I want to make sure I know right away when they pop up. So I've set up reporting to catch and log bugs as they occur.
Fire extinguished!

I've talked with a lot of people about Brooklet. Many seem receptive to the ideas, even going so far as to list what they would use it for. It's really interesting and useful to get this feedback. However, when it comes to actually getting users, it's not a success until they are using the app every day.
So if you feel like you "get it", come try Brooklet! I think you'll really like it.

I posted a link to Brooklet in comments of an r/productivity post. This led one stranger to sign up for early access, my very first!
It highlighted to me that I need to add a Platform field to my early access form. I had to email them directly to figure out which platform to add them too.
I've added a new "Early Access" user group to TestFlight. I'll send the invite our tonight!
