Browserflow

Here's what I wrote about coming up with the idea for Browserflow in my journal:

So this week was supposed to be a rest week of sorts, where I recover from weeks of nonstop work and give myself a break.

Well... turns out that I'm bad at giving myself breaks. In fact, I'm working like a mad man; I spent 10 hours and 40 minutes coding today. But not on Intention.

Two days ago, I was struck by a browser extension idea that blew my mind. This doesn't happen often; most of the time, the ideas I come up with are of the "hm, that could be interesting" variety. This one was the "holy crap" kind.

It was a variation of an idea that I had played around with before, but a minor change in the way that I was thinking about it made me realize that there's a lot more potential here than I had given it credit for. Over several hours, it went from a tiny spark to an all engulfing flame. I've barely slept for the past two nights because I've been so excited to work on it. To be honest, it feels like a bit too much because it's already negatively affecting my other routines and priorities — for example, I skipped my three-days-a-week exercise routine today for the first time in months.

Normally, I don't place much value on ideas and subscribe to the approach that it's mostly about executing well. But this time, I find myself feeling reticent to talk about the idea publicly. I'm usually not worried about someone swooping in and "stealing my idea", but I'd like to keep this one under wraps until I have something built.

Let's be real though. My eyeballs are covered in a thick rose-tinted film, and this idea is probably not the super incredible life-changing epiphany that it sometimes appears to be in my head.

Still, I'm excited to run with this for a little bit (a few weeks? we'll see) and see whether I can create a compelling product around it. At the very least, it'll provide a nice break from working on Intention all the time so that I'll feel fresh when I resume working on it.
