Build a Powerful Personal Brand in 21 Hours
This online course is for ambitious thought leaders!
I'm beyond excited because my total goal was 50 registrations. π
My biggest advantage has been my ability to quickly identify where my ideal clients hang out and my content marketing skills (my background's in marketing).
My whole business idea is based around teaching specialists how to make sales without spending a cent on ads, so I'm happy to show that I practice what I preach :)
My next goal is reducing the number of no shows, and converting webinar attendees into sales. Watch this space...
I didn't pay for ads. This was all done organically.
My investment in being consistently visible online and sharing valuable and engaging content is paying off.
Yes, I undercharged, but as so many Indie Hackers have reminded me, this is common for the first few sales.
Onwards and upwards! ππΎ
This may not seem like a big deal, but I've had many webinar fails where I got 0 sign-ups after weeks of promoting.
This time, I spent time testing webinar topics and going on virtual coffee catch-ups, to help me figure out what my target audience wants.
Finally settled on 'How to Crush it on LinkedIn' after getting lots of interest.
My event link is now live and I've had 5 sign-ups in just 4 hours (and none of them are my mum π ).

Thank you π

I'm ready for my first paying client after I:
-
I changed the course to take 21 hours instead, with no strict end date so thought leaders can choose how quickly they want to complete the course.
-
Created a Built-For-You Personal Branding service, where I do everything for the thought leader who prefers that option.

It turns out basing an entire course on one tester's opinion wasn't such a great idea.
While I'm grateful that my cousin took the time to test my MVP, the result wasn't what my audience wanted.
I had created a great 39-day personal branding course, but when I took it to the market, no one was interested. The feedback I got was:
- 39 days is just too overwhelming. Not many people have the time to complete a module every day for 39 days.
- They wanted the option to have someone else write the content and set up their marketing systems.
So, I got to work.

Sounds a lot like what the guys from Customers from Content experienced. They pushed a course and learned that people preferred to have it all done for them (the marketing), so they started offering the service.

Thanks for your thoughts Gene! I wish I'd known about Customers from Content's experience before I created the course ππ
Oh well, at least now I have 2 options for thought leaders who want to build their personal brand. π

Well, don't let that discourage you from marketing your course. Just because that was their experience doesn't mean it will be yours. There are many variables at play. I don't have any solid tips right now but I hope you push through it and find what works!

After coming up with the idea, I decided to reach out to family and friends to discuss which parts of building a personal brand they struggle with the most.
I created content based on that feedback and recruited my cousin brother to test the product.

I'm someone who's always been active online because when I moved from Zimbabwe to Australia 5 years ago, I quickly realised that to get the best jobs, I had to be very visible online.
That's how my journey started. Fast forward to April 2020.
I had been consulting on the side for a year, helping small business owners with their marketing. My full-time job was also in marketing.
Then coronavirus hit.
Unfortunately, my department was the first to be let go and as I wallowed in self-pity, I noticed an interesting trend on LinkedIn.
Experts and thought leaders who had developed a powerful personal brand before the pandemic didn't seem affected by the new normal. In fact, a lot of them were thriving.
I was also seeing more posts from panicked business owners and corporate business leaders who had lost their income.
They had suddenly realised how important it is to have a powerful personal brand that can carry you through peaks and troughs.
That's how I noticed the gap in the market.
While there are lots of branding and marketing experts, most target small businesses and will only focus on branding for the business.
But what about the founders behind those businesses? What about their personal brand?
What about the corporate business leaders who had a lot of expertise and experience, but no personal brand?
So, ambitious tribe was born. :)

About
This product exists because I realised that there are so many smart thought leaders who struggle to reach their audience. They have interesting and helpful ideas but don't know how to communicate them online.
