November 5, 2021 Running on auto-pilot

Bullish has been pretty much running on autopilot for most of 2021. The product is stable and runs smoothly without any intervention, so it's mostly a passive endeavor at this point. I love getting Bullish in the morning every day, and it makes me proud that it just works.

On the revenue side, I'm happily surprised that without any real marketing effort aside from a few tweets here and there, we pulled a little over 2k in revenue this year which is about $166 MRR. Not too bad, given the zero effort we put in.

We had luck selling ad spots on Leterwell and did a pretty lucrative campaign with StackCommerce to offer a lifetime subscription.

There's potential for more. I have quite a few ideas and features I would like to see in Bullish and other newsletters in the same style for crypto or meme stocks that would be cool to have. I'll get there eventually.

August 14, 2020 A Jack of all trades

Since the launch of Bullish Premium, I've been doing many things to spread the word out.

I set up a new website, started engaging more actively on Twitter, promoted it on LinkedIn, launched on Product Hunt, wrote a detailed article about the process, and posted on Hacker News along with some subreddits and newsletter directories.

It wasn't a home run by any means, but we've managed to add around 450 new subscribers since the past month and a few more paid subscribers to a total of 14, which brings Bullish to a monthly recurring revenue of about $75.

    Well done!๐ŸŽ‰

Your strategy was super straightforward and hopefully those subscribers turn into paid customers soon too!

July 10, 2020 Shipped and charged ๐Ÿ’ฐ

After a little over a month moonlighting every night, I've finally launched Bullish Premium as a paid newsletter subscription.

Bullish now has two editions, free and premium, and I've got the first ten paying users by promoting it to existing subscribers using the copy below.

It's launch day ๐Ÿš€

Hi there,

I have some big news to share! ๐Ÿ’ฌ

But first, let me give you some context.

I started Bullish because I was looking for a lazy way to get the data I cared about in the stock market.

I'm not a trader, wall street guy, or a gambler. I'm your average investor who wants to make better decisions and more money. ๐Ÿ’ธ
Like โ€” who doesn't?

After I launched Bullish to my surprise, more than 1500 people signed up in the first few days.

I couldn't believe it. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

More important than that was all the feedback I got on how to improve the product ๐Ÿ‘Œ, and that was the spark to work on something cool that I think you are going to like it.

Introducing: Bullish Premium! ๐ŸŽ‰

๐Ÿ“ฎ Two emails a day. Monday to Friday.
One before the markets open and one after it closes.

Lots of new data points and insights, including:

โ— S&P 500
โ— Nasdaq
โ— Dow Jones
โ— Gold
โ— Russell 2k
โ— 10-Yr Treasury
โ— US futures
โ— Trending stocks
โ— Asia & Europe futures
โ— Top gainers
โ— Top losers
โ— Crypto
โ— All-time high performance
โ— Sector performance

โ— Year to date performance

Bullish premium is a monthly subscription, and it costs about the same price of a hipster coffee โ˜• or $4.99/mo to be exact but with the bonus of helping you make money if you don't โ€” "buy high sell low." ๐Ÿ˜‰

Give it a go. Cancel anytime.

April 28, 2020 Replaced E-mail service

Was running then newsletter on Sendgrid but it proved to be unreliable plus terrible customer support. After signing up and playing with a bunch I chose MailerLite and it has been great so far, fantastic product with great API, customer support, and affordable price.

April 14, 2020 Hacker News

Wrote a blog going into detail about how I built Bullish and posted on Hacker News (https://eduardosasso.co/blog/turning-my-obsession-in-the-stock-market-into-a-side-project/). To my surprise, it made the front page for half a day and got me a good amount of traffic and around 1.5k subscribers! It feels like I could be into something...

March 24, 2020 I had an idea!

While in quarantine watching the stock markets sink in late march, I came up with an idea for a daily email newsletter to send stock market info before the markets open, looking at stock futures and major indexes performance for SP500, Nasdaq and Dow Jones.

shouldn't the tagline at the end be "Buy low and sell high" ?

That was intentional. Itโ€™s for fun and also to see whoโ€™s paying attention.

About

Decided to build an automated email newsletter to track the stock market and show pre-market data and historical performance of S&P 500, Nasdaq, and Dow Jones to help with my investments.
