December 3, 2018 30 Day Product Development Challenge

A friend of mine and myself were talking about taking on side projects, small projects each month that we would build and launch in under 30 days. It's something we have talked about for years literally and because of the demands of our 9-5 jobs we never really got to try it.

One of the big reasons we never got to try it was because we hadn't put in the fundamentals to make such a thing work. We are both self taught programmers and have launched projects in the past that eventually failed. We needed to find a slump buster, something to get us back in the groove and not comfortable with a 9-5.

One of the biggest learning point from our previous product launches has always been time to market, getting that MVP ready and tested as soon as possible. While in a lot of markets, creating a landing page and validating a concept works very well, we have found that in the South African market that is not always the case. Potential users want to have a feel of the app and if they are going to pay for early access they want the app functional.

Instead of creating a landing page, we have seen that creating a decently designed MVP is what would work. Because of the many scams and people loosing money, a lot of people are reluctant to pay for a service that doesn't boost a decent design. If the aesthetics are modern and the UX is good people will not hesitate to give your app a try.

To reduce the time to market, our latest approach has been to develop an internal headless CMS and API that we then use to build our MVPs. So each month we mostly focus on just the front end with a few tweaks to the API. BuyPage is going to be the first app we launch that will follow this development philosophy and hopefully this will work and enable us to launch a product a month in 2019.
