Cake
Group video greetings for friends, family and coworkers.
One month of keeping my head down and building!
Used a boilerplate project from another app I've been working on as the starting point. I saw the opportunity specifically as a result of COVID, and people still not being able to all be together, be it at work or for family gatherings, etc.
I initially had this idea as a result of people not being able to celebrate birthdays and events in the same way as was possible before Covid.
I saw different people trying to organize zoom birthday meetings, but it just didn't seem right.
So I thought, what if there was the equivalent of the office greeting card, passed around and collecting cash from people, then giving them the signed card with the gift. Except in a digital world, it meant everyone recording a 15-60 second birthday, congratulations, etc wish - and being able to chip in 3, 5, 10$ towards a gift card for the person.
Finally, the videos and cash would be compiled and sent to the recipient on their special day.
When I started talking to a few people about it, I was astounded by how many people were struggling and trying to hack together the same thing. I was confident I could put together an MVP in a few weeks, so I decided to put my head down and go for it.
Right then, Cake was born!
