Calculator4u.app
170+ specialized calculators for everyday problem-solving.
Hi IndieHackers, I've spent the last 6 months building something I genuinely care about — a free calculator platform called Calculator4U.app. No team. No funding. No prior product building experience. Just curiosity, time, and a lot of iteration. Here's what I learned.
THE IDEA
I kept using calculator websites that were either:
- Too basic (just one number output)
- US-only (useless for Indian investors)
- Covered in ads
- Required signup for basic features
So I built Calculator4U.app — 175 free calculators covering Finance, Health, Environment, Math and Pet Health. No signup. No paywalls. Dual US + India market support.
WHAT I BUILT
91 Finance calculators including India-specific tools (SIP, EPF, PPF, GST, Gratuity) and US tools (FIRE, 401k, Freelance Tax, Marriage Tax).
18 Environment calculators nobody else has built —
Ewaste Disposal, Waste Segregation, Recycling ROI, Plastic Footprint, Hydropower.
40 Health calculators including niche fitness tools
— CrossFit WOD, Olympic Lifting, Yoga Age, Calisthenics Calories.
8 Pet Health calculators — Bird, Reptile, Fish, Exotic nutrition calculators with zero competition globally.
THE TECH STACK
- React + Vite
- Hosted on Replit (paid plan)
- Custom domain: calculator4u.app
- Full schema JSON-LD on every page
- llms.txt for AI crawler visibility
- Individual URLs for all 175 pages
THE HONEST STRUGGLES
1. Building on nights and weekends Balancing a full-time PM role with building and shipping 175 calculators has meant a lot of late evenings. No shortcuts — just consistency.
2. SEO takes forever
I finished on-page SEO for all 175 calculators in June 2026. Zero traffic yet. Domain is 3 months old. Waiting for Google to trust the site.
3. Backlinks are hard
Reddit blocks new accounts.
AlternativeTo rejected my submission.
Quora banned me for sharing links.
Building distribution from scratch is harder than building the product.
4. AI is disrupting calculator sites
Google AI Overviews are killing simple calculator traffic. I've focused on complex, interactive tools that AI can't replicate inline.
5. India vs US traffic RPM gap
India traffic pays $1-3 RPM on Ezoic. US traffic pays $15-25 RPM.
Building dual-market means accepting lower average monetization.

WHAT'S WORKING
- Schema validation is perfect
- llms.txt live and accessible
- Individual calculator pages indexed
- Product Hunt submitted
- SaaSHub listed
- GitHub presence established
CURRENT STATUS
- Monthly visitors: Near zero (honest)
- Monthly revenue: $0 (honest)
- Domain age: ~3 months
- Calculators live: 175+
- SEO: Complete
QUESTIONS FOR THE COMMUNITY
1. How did you get your first 1,000 visitors without paid ads?
2. Any finance bloggers or communities you'd recommend for calculator tool promotion?
3. Is the affiliate model better than AdSense for finance tools?
4. Anyone tried embedding calculators on other sites as a backlink strategy?

Happy to answer any questions about the build process, tech stack, or SEO approach — juggling this with a full-time job, so I'm especially curious how other side-project builders find time for distribution and marketing.
calculator4u.app — completely free, no signup needed.
About

Hey, just wanted to say — your product looks really impressive. It feels useful, clean, and like something that can actually help people solve a real problem.
I’m building Everyday Tiny Tools — a marketplace for small useful web tools, mini apps, calculators, generators, AI tools, productivity helpers, and simple utilities.
The idea is to give independent creators a real place to showcase their tools, get discovered, and maybe even earn from them.
If you’ve built something small and useful, I’d love to invite you to list it here: EverydayTinyTools.com
Tools can be listed as free, or as a simple one-time purchase through the platform.
And if you have any questions, feel free to reach out anytime: nuchem@lightboltlab.com
Really like what you’re building — wishing you a lot of success with it.
What stands out here is not the number of calculators—it’s the decision to treat SEO as an infrastructure problem rather than a content problem. Most builders stop at volume, but the harder constraint is actually distribution under changing search surfaces (especially with AI overviews collapsing simple query traffic). The interesting bet here is shifting toward “non-trivial computation surfaces” that AI can’t easily inline, which is exactly where these kinds of tool directories still have a defensible window.
