Caplio
A private, searchable library for your screenshots and image
I take a lot of screenshots and save reference images while working, and over time they basically turn into a folder I rarely want to dig through again.
The frustrating part was that I often remembered what was inside an image a sentence, an error message, a piece of UI but not its filename or exactly when I saved it.
So I built Caplio.
It's a native macOS app that lets you choose folders you already use and turns the images inside them into a searchable visual library.
The important part for me was not creating yet another copy of the user's image library. Caplio indexes the files in place and watches those folders for new images.
OCR is handled locally with Apple Vision, so screenshots and extracted text aren't uploaded to a server.
From there, you can search the text inside images, browse them in a timeline, filter by date or category, create your own categories, and drag an image directly from Caplio into another Mac app.
I also added an optional organization layer. Caplio can organize the actual files by date or category, keep a move history, and restore them later. New images can then be organized automatically as they arrive.
One thing I've already learned from launching is that users quickly find workflows and edge cases I hadn't considered.
For example, early feedback has already pushed me to think more about bulk export, working with groups of search results, and how the pricing model should work for a fully local app.
That feedback has honestly been one of the most useful parts of launching.
Caplio is now on the Mac App Store. It's bootstrapped and currently a side project.
I'd especially love feedback from other indie developers:
Would you keep a product like this narrowly focused on screenshots/images, or gradually turn it into a broader local visual/document memory for the Mac?

The broader “visual memory” direction is interesting, but it could also change what makes Caplio immediately useful in the first place.
I’d be curious which workflow users are pulling hardest toward the broader product.
