Getting Started

Carme Desk has been a product on my list of possible undertakings for a while. Before spending the previous 8 years at a tech startup I spent more than a decade creating art. That type of work of hand building fine objects is something I've really missed. With my current status of working at home and slightly obsessing over my workspace the two needs coalesced.

After burning out in a fast-growth tech company I've grown strongly opposed to growth for growths sake. This product is part of a test of if and how a physical product can be sustainable financially but also environmentally sustainable and emotionally sustainable for myself. The goal is to set strong boundaries and make product decisions that purposefully limit growth.

This messaging of degrowth is part of the product and will be built into design and marketing. Products will be made with renewable, recycled, and Eco-conscious materials. Designs will be designed and produced for long life. Product runs will be small to stop any considerations of mass production and capture the idea of having some meaning in the things we surround ourselves with.

This is all early in messaging but designs are in progress and setting up a small production space is already in motion. Plans are to have the initial produced designs for sale in early August.
