Carousel Generator

I debated whether or not it would be beneficial to add a landing page to carouselgenerator.com

The pros:

• It adds context to what the tool does for people who are unfamiliar
• It adds some phrases that can help with SEO
• Makes the site look my professional

The Cons:

• It pushes the actual tool below the fold and requires users to scroll down before they get started using it
• Adds additional maintenance cost of making the landing page look decent with every new change

In the end I added it anyway. Does anyone think this is a bad idea?

One thing that really bothered me was how ugly Carousel Generator looked on mobile. All of the input fields and buttons looked smooshed together. I spent a few hours making sure that Carousel Generator looks decent on mobile.

I am actually surprised how well the pdf download feature works now.

After publishing my MVP, I got some great feedback from folks on LinkedIn . They mentioned making the background colors less harsh and to focus on having customizable font types, sizes and colors. The most important feature that was lacking was having a preview of the carousel slideshow and a way to generate a multi page PDF containing the images.

I quickly got to work tackling the carousel preview multi page PDFs but the font types will have to wait!

I noticed a trend where LinkedIn influencers were posting multiple images of text on colored backgrounds in a carousel format.

Most of them were probably using Canva or Google slides to generate these images. I thought it would be a bit tedious to have to generate over 10+ images using Canva or Google Slides so I wanted to build a simple tool to make it easier.

Thus Carousel Generator was born.

I created a quick prototype and posted an example output on LinkedIn. I asked if anyone was interested in me polishing up the prototype and releasing it to the public.

The response I got was very encouraging and motivated me to work through the night and publish it live.
