Castify
Listen to YouTube in your podcast player
Hey IH 👋
Just launched Castify: a cross-platform desktop app that turns YouTube channels, playlists, and SoundCloud artists into real podcast RSS feeds. Paste the URL into Overcast, Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts — whatever you already use.
Why: I wanted to listen to long YouTube interviews at 2x, offline, with my queue syncing across devices. Existing tools routed everything through a shared proxy that kept getting rate-limited. So I built one that extracts locally (yt-dlp on your own machine) and just hands you an RSS URL.
Stack: Tauri v2 + React + Rust client, Go server, AWS, Stripe. macOS / Windows / Linux.
Pricing: Free Starter (3 feeds), paid Pro & Unlimited tiers.

Two things I'd love feedback on:
1. Is the free tier (3 feeds) the right funnel, or too generous?
2. What YouTube creators would you want to listen to this way?
Happy to answer anything about the architecture or the Tauri migration.
About
YouTube hosts enormous amounts of great audio content — interviews, lectures, audiobooks, earnings calls, talks — but the YouTube app is built for watching, not listening. Background play is paywalled.
