Create Personalized Birthday Songs with Their Name & Your Me

August 31, 2026 Show IH: I turned people's memories into songs — and people are actually paying for them

A few months ago, I started wondering whether AI-generated music could become something more meaningful than just another AI toy.

People have been paying for personalized songs for decades. The old version was usually simple: put someone's name into a song, or hire someone to write a custom song. The problem was that truly personalized music was expensive and time-consuming.

AI changed that.

With today's music models, I can take someone's relationship, memories, personality, inside jokes, and other details and turn them into an original song at a fraction of the traditional cost.

So I built CelebrateYou.

The initial idea was very simple: create a personalized birthday song for someone you love.

Instead of just asking for a name, I ask the user about the person and their memories. Those details become the raw material for the lyrics and the song.

For example, instead of:

"Happy birthday, Sarah."

You can give it something like:

"Sarah and I met in college, we used to study together until 2am, she loves hiking, and our best trip was to Yellowstone."

The goal is to turn those details into something that actually feels like it belongs to that person.

And something surprising happened.

People actually started paying for it.

So far, I've had real users generate songs, listen to previews, and purchase the final product. I'm still very early, but this was enough to convince me that there may be a real market here.

One thing I've learned from SEO and Google Ads is that the demand isn't necessarily new.

People have been searching for things like "birthday song with name", "custom birthday song", and "personalized birthday song" for a long time.

The interesting part is that AI may have changed the economics of fulfilling that demand.

Previously, someone might want a personalized song but couldn't justify paying for a professional songwriter and music production.

Now the same basic desire can potentially be fulfilled instantly and at a much lower price.

That makes me wonder if AI is not just creating new markets, but also making previously uneconomical markets viable.

I'm currently focusing on birthdays, but I'm also thinking about where this could go next: personalized birthday videos, lyric cards, slideshows, anniversaries, weddings, Mother's Day, and other occasions where people want to give someone a meaningful gift.

I don't want to turn this into a generic "AI content generator". The thing I'm most interested in is the emotional value of turning someone's actual memories into something they can give to another person.

I'm still trying to figure out how big this market can become.

Would you consider an AI-generated song based on your personal memories a real gift, or would it still feel like an AI novelty?

And if you were building this, would you stay focused on personalized songs or expand into other personalized gift formats?

I'd love to hear what other indie hackers think.

The fact that people are already paying makes the expansion question much more interesting.

Curious whether the buyers seem to value the personalized song itself, or mainly the idea of turning memories into a gift — because that would change how far I'd expand beyond music.
