I've been trying to validate the app idea, and I thought that in this case, the best way would be to build a prototype. The prototype is available at https://lrner.io. As I started building, I realized that making all features user editable would be the way to scale the features of the character sheet. For the first feature -- "Skills" Users can create skill definitions that other users can add to their character sheet. These skill definitions will list the skill name on the character sheet, but can also include checklists that users can use to track their progress in a given skill.

For example. If the skill were juggling you might add a checklist like:

2 ball juggle
3 ball cascade
Cascade
Fake Columns
Yo-Yo
Oy-Oy
Juggler's Tennis
423
The W

(Take from: http://libraryofjuggling.com/TricksByDifficulty.html)

Some of the direction I'd like to take from here is to evolve the skill tracking to be more complex (more than just a checklist, or to add the ability to add youtube videos, or links to different items on a checklist to make it more like a class.)

The other direction would be to make more addables to the character sheet. For example:

  • Traits -- This might be something like a quiz you take to determine how much of a certain trait you exhibit. I don't know how popular these types of quizzes still are on social media, but could be a way to grow the audience.

  • Values -- I've been curious recently how much other people share my values. Could be fun to track, and then later get aggregated data on.

  • Attributes -- In this case I'm thinking of other little one-line items like you have next to the name at the top of the character sheet. This could be things like astrological sign, or religion.

If social media can use gamification to hold attention and keep people scrolling, I'd rather use powerful technology to help people understand and improve themselves. Ultimately, I built this because I wanted it to exis
