August 26, 2019 Got our churn rate down to 7%

We did a customer survey asking two simple questions:

What was the problem you were looking to solve before stumbling across ChargeKeep?

How would you describe ChargeKeep to a friend who knew nothing about the tool?

The responses were eye-opening and helped us change the copy on our homepage to more closely match searcher intent.

The users who have signed up since know exactly what the tool is for and churn less as a result.

Do you mind sharing any insights, it might help to improve our landing pages too.

This is great info, thanks for sharing.

interesting! did you do any segmentation on who you sent the survey to? just curious if these were your best customers, a random sampling, etc?

    1. 1

Didn't do any segmentation as we only had 60 or so customers at the time, so there was very little to segment, and I wanted to maximize the number of responses we got. We ended up getting 15 or so responses and I've since asked the questions of every new customer. But in the future, if I were to segment, it would be among:

      1. Our active users
      2. Our infrequent users
      3. Users who signed up, but never used the tool
August 21, 2019 Reached $1000 MRR

Reached $1000 MRR and finally gaining some momentum... Devoted a bit more time to marketing the last couple of months, and finally starting to see some dividends.

Now, just need to repeat that 10x and will have a real business.

Rewarding nonetheless that 65+ consultants, coaches, non-profits, etc. find the product useful and are using it to grow their own businesses.

April 1, 2019 Reached 50 paying customers

It's been a slow climb, but we're up to 50 paying customers. Considering ChargeKeep was only a side-project to start, I'm psyched the platform is useful for 50 other small businesses.

It's really great to see the wide breadth of business that are using the platform. Everyone from coaches to consultants to productized services to travel services, and a lot of niche businesses in between.

So much fun meeting and having conversations with those customers and realizing the wide variety of online businesses people start and make successful.

This is a really good result!
Wonder, when did you get your very first paid user?

    1. 1

It was a few days after we launched. Our first 10 users were mostly businesses I reached out to through my personal network.

        Thanks, and good luck!
Oh, one more question... I see your team is pretty big, but the income is definitely not enough to cover all expenses. Do you have any investors, or do you pay them from some other sources?
        Thanks.

        1. 1

Yeah, that's a very "aspirational" page. All the folks you see there are people who've worked on the app. None are full-time. I'm not full time either, so I just listed the folks who've helped me along the way. If I were to be 100% accurate (and I think I'll make that change...), I would probably just list myself and my main developer.

            Ah, okay, thanks!

January 15, 2019 Reached $500 MRR

Not a huge milestone by most SAAS standards, but still really happy to have reached it.

Considering that this is still a side-project and I'm not devoting 100% of my time to it, reaching a level where it's making enough to at least cover basic expenses is fun.

Still learning a ton and figuring things out as a I go, but that's what I signed up for so I'm really enjoying the process.

Thanks man, much appreciated. We've almost doubled that since then so this little thing keeps growing bit by bit.

Very cool! Had a similar project with SimplePay.Link but didn't push it forward to nearly your level. Glad to see you made something happen in this niche.

    1. 2

Yeah, users are definitely looking for more than just a way to send a payment link. That was my (incorrect) assumption at the beginning as well.

  8. 1

Hey great project ! definitely see the need for it manually in social media to post quick sell links.
say what tech stack you are using ? and what hosting ?
about stripe and paypal do you need personal account or each user use its own stripe account ?
    Thanks

    1. 1

      Thanks!

      Ruby/Heroku

Users connect their own Stripe account(s).

March 1, 2018 Launched ChargeKeep

Launched ChargeKeep officially after a couple months coding an MVP and gathering feedback.

Totally new to SAAS, but wanted to get my feet wet by building something - in this case, a tool that could also be used in my other online businesses.

Thought about buying an existing app (and went pretty far down that road), but really wanted to go through the learning process of building and marketing something from scratch.

To code ChargeKeep, used an agency recommended by another (successful) SAAS founder. If you want to hear about that experience, shoot me a message.

About

Initially, I created it to help collect quick payments at our other online businesses. Since then (Mar 2018) we've grown and help other businesses do the same.
