Hi Indie Hackers,

I'm the founder of ChatGPT Assistant for Jira https://www.indiehackers.com/product/chatgpt-ai-assistant-for-jira.

The app works in such a way that it adds a chatbox under each Jira issue that lets you ask the assistant to do some tasks. You can ask it to suggest an improvement to an issue, correct grammar, translate description and if the ticket is a client request, you can even use it to prepare a response. One of the early decisions I made was that the app should be as easy to use as possible, so I wanted people to be able to use it as soon as they installed it. It doesn't ask and lets you configure chatgpt credentials and has an embedded monthly budget per user to prevent fraud. The pricing is adjusted to take that into account - I added chatgpt cost to each seat's price. It worked quite well for a long time but ultimately, it proved to be limiting.

I saw the struggle people have with Jira automation. Assigning fix version field to tickets moved to done, classifying issues into different groups to understand which areas of apps have the most bugs and need improvement. Answering quickly to critical issues or assigning tickets to a person most familiar with an issue at hand. These problems are hard and I wanted to address them.

With pricing per seat and adding ChatGPT budget on top of it, it's difficult to come up with a good number to cover the cost of ChatGPT license. Ultimately, such automation depends on the number of issues processed, not on the number of people using the app, so I decided to build a more advanced version of the app I had, where you have more control and there are no budget limits. You use your own ChatGPT account.

I released the app to Atlassian marketplace at https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1233214/chatgpt-assistant-pro?hosting=cloud&tab=overview. You can see it in action on Youtube

In the first version, I let users create rules applied to newly created tickets. Looking forward to adding more functionality!

With the increasing adoption of chat as the primary way to communicate with support teams I saw the struggle to quickly and effectively classify new issues. The app does it for you based on the rules you write as text.
