June 18, 2026 From 0 to first paying customers: building a labor compliance SaaS for Spanish SMEs as a solo founder

I'm a solo founder based in Málaga, Spain. 18 months ago I started building CheckInGO — a time tracking and labor compliance tool for Spanish small businesses.

The problem is real and urgent: a 2019 law (RDL 8/2019) forces every company in Spain to digitally register employee working hours or face fines up to €187,000. Most SMEs are still using Excel or paper. They know it's illegal. They just don't have a tool built for them.

The existing solutions are enterprise HR platforms — Factorial, Sesame, Bizneo. Expensive, complex, overkill for a 10-person restaurant.

So I built the opposite: no hardware, 2-minute setup, works offline, inspection-ready PDF in one click. €19/month.

Where I am today: - Paying customers across hospitality, construction, aesthetics and events sectors - 5.0 rating on Capterra and Google Play - Solo: I write every line of code, every blog post, every cold outreach message

Growth so far has come through LinkedIn outreach, Instagram, and referrals from existing clients. SEO is starting to kick in and early signals look promising. Happy to answer questions about the Spanish market or building compliance SaaS solo.

One thing I find interesting here is that compliance products often start by solving a legal requirement and end up being bought for a completely different reason.

The law may create the urgency.

It doesn't always determine what customers end up valuing most once they're using the product.

I'd be curious whether those have stayed aligned for you so far.

EU compliance SaaS is a genuinely underserved space. What was the hardest part of convincing Spanish SMEs that compliance matters before they get fined?
