Platform (CMS) for cinema website, aimed at smaller cinemas

I started this project because I wanted to make a new website for the local cinema that I volunteer for. They had very little requirements. They wanted to be able to import showtime and movie information (poster, trailer, actors, etc.) so that it would take them less time to keep the site up to date. I could do what I wanted with the design, layout and other functionalities.

I used Rails for the backend and ReactJS/NextJS for the frontend, because I was already familiar with those frameworks.

It turned into a huge project (for me, still a junior) that took me over four months to finish, full time.

I made the classic mistake of adding functionalities and tinkering with the design, before checking to see if there was demand.

I spent a few hours here and there sending out cold e-mails, got a few leads that didn't turn into sales. I'm dealing with cinemas that are run by volunteers here in France and they tend to want to: meet me in person (drove 2 x 1.5h to visit one) and change the design or ask for added functionalities. Both of those are impossible for the price I'm asking.

I'm keeping the product online, because my cinema is paying which covers the hosting, but I do not see it going anywhere to be honest. It was a good exercise, learned a lot, mostly about what not to do!

About

I volunteer for a small local cinema that needed a new website. I decided to build a platform so that I could host websites for multiple cinemas.
