Cinemoid helps you pick good movies for movie night

May 20, 2022 I'm gonna continue even though validation is failing

I'm gonna do something I planned not to do: I'm gonna build something that is is not doing well in validation.

3 weeks ago I started a landing page + campaign to validate Cinemoid, The app that helps you choose on movie night). Everybody I pitch the idea too is super enthusiastic. But validate before you incorporate, imma right?

So, enter Cardd + Mailchimp + Ad Words. However, after about 30k view, 300 clicks and only 2 conversions, I'm starting to fail my own goal: 100 conversions or no building. Which is where the fun starts*

This is the first time I used a limit, and now I'm gonna break it.

Why?

  1. I now think that signing-up for an app that might invite you is a much harder sell than a free app you can look at right now. So maybe this whole validation idea isn't for my kind of idea.
  2. I have an alpha version in TestFlight and 2 (out of 4 invited users) are really using a lot, even though that version is really rough. Isn't actual user a much better indicator?
  3. I'm working on it with a co-founder and he is getting more and more hyped about it. It is nice energy. By the way: We use Slicing Pie and that really helps here, because more engagement is a bigger slice.

May 2, 2022 Time for some validation

The idea for Cinemoid really has me stoked; helping people pick movies from the ever growing, but containerized supply. Everybody I tell about the idea recognizes the problem. But, this isn’t my first rodeo and no perspiration before validation, am I right?

So, I created a landing page using cardd and mailchimp. And gave it some light activation on social media. Check it out on: https://Cinemoid.io
Btw: I totally recommend those 2. It is about 10x faster than what I used to do.

So far the traction hasn’t been stellar. 15 people subscribed to the idea, I was aiming for a hunderd before investing time in further development. (PoC is done)

About

I personally have spend quite some nights flicking to movies endlessly, and even more so with company. And I think this idea might help.
