August 27, 2019 Marketing Day 1 - Cold Calling

Today I'm out marketing CircleSend. This time around I know exactly who my target audience is; that's a better start for sure!

I made 20 calls today and released a short YouTube video to send to people that sounded interested. Out of those 20 calls, probably 10 picked up and 1 potential lead! I've set reminders to call back the other 10 tomorrow. One thing I've learnt is that cold calling is hard! I wasn't expecting it to be easy, but still, this is really different from anything I've done before.

I started with a script, but just found that it wasn't natural, so I'm tweaking things as I go to get a more natural sounding opener. Now I need to work on being a bit more persistent when they present an obstacle like "we already have a solution", "we're not interested", "we do it manually and we're fine with that". I wasn't expecting to be great at this right away, so I've cut myself some slack and am giving myself time to learn the ropes. Let's see what tomorrow brings...

More than being persistent, you need to have an answer to every possible objection that throw at you. Think about them and write down the answers.

Yeah, you're definitely right with that one. Day 2 here I go...

August 22, 2019 MVP

Just shy of two weeks in development from start to finish and I've got my MVP. I've typically engineered things well and spent time on good code organisation and all things things you're supposed to do, this time I threw it all out of the window and opted for MVP.

Lashed it up, felt dirty, but it works... love it!

If it goes well, I'll rewrite and get the codebase slick! No point wasting time on something people mightn't use...

    Hey there,

I am in a similar situation and thinking about building an MVP for an idea of mine. May I ask if you developed the MVP yourself or got help from outside? How did you approach the product design?

Would love to connect and have a chat if possible

Hey, sorry for the slow reply, I go through waves of being active on IH.

Yeah, I developed the MVP alone, but I'm a software developer, so that's my area of expertise. As for how I approached product design, I just started with what I thought would solve the problem, I designed the bare minimum to make the product functional and then tried to market it (definitely not my area of expertise!).

Happy to talk more, let me know how we can get in touch if you're still interested.
