April 15, 2026 Why I’m building ClauseLayer with my dad

A confusing contract hurt our family last year. Nothing dramatic, just one clause written in dense legal language that created stress we didn’t expect.

It made us realize something simple: most people sign contracts they don’t fully understand.

Not because they’re careless. Because the language is designed to be confusing, and lawyers are expensive.

So my dad and I started building ClauseLayer, a tool that explains contracts in plain English and highlights risks before you sign.

We’re building it in public, learning as we go, and trying to make legal language feel human again.

If you’ve ever signed something you weren’t 100% sure about, you know why this matters.

Building this with your dad after a personal family experience gives ClauseLayer a soul that most SaaS products lack. But you are fighting against a 'Legal Trust' barrier that is incredibly high.

In the legal world, people are terrified of 'Plain English' summaries because they fear missing a hidden risk. Even if your AI is 10x better than a tired lawyer, most people will hesitate to trust a new tool with their contracts unless they see it being discussed or validated by major tech and business publications.

If ClauseLayer is featured in the news as the 'Human-centric' alternative to dense legal jargon, that media validation becomes the shield your users need to trust you. Without that high-level authority, it’s hard to move from being a 'cool project' to a 'must-have security tool' for families and small businesses. How are you planning to get the media to vouch for your mission and bridge that massive trust gap?

ClauseLayer exists because a confusing contract hurt our family, and we realized millions face the same problem.
