One recurring thing I hear from a number of the startup podcasts I listen to is that paying customers are completely different from free customers.

In the past, I would have tried to give away some product so I could gain traction... or that's what I was telling myself I was doing. Really, I just didn't want to ask for money. I was afraid that I'd be rejected.

Being willing to hear "no" is an empowering thing.

There's power in knowing that someone saying, "no" doesn't mean that they are rejecting me, but that they are expressing feedback: they don't see enough value provided for the cost (which means I need to try harder to explain that value more clearly).

September 7, 2018 Marketing Website Created

I've had many, many projects that never saw the light of day. One hard-earned lesson was to do stuff that let me focus on the core business.

I found that it's so very easy to get bogged down along the way... It's so easy to get lost in the tech stack or the website or logos or baubles or whatever navel-gazing helped me avoid the tough-stuff and keep on working on the stuff I liked doing.

One of those tough-stuff items for me is marketing. I'm the marketing guy for my one man show, but I sure ain't no marketing guy.

So, using my hard-earned lesson about doing what lets me focus on my core business, I "outsourced" the marketing website to Wordpress.

Not über 1337 tech, but it gets the job done. In the past, I would have spent weeks trying to set up something from scratch. This time, my turnaround was a couple days & it's tech I don't have to worry about maintaining.
