Clipps is now Casts!

After some careful consideration, I've decided to rename my "Clipps" project to "Casts"! I realize that most people would consider this type of branding change to be pointless in the grand scheme of things, but allow me to share some of my thoughts...

  1. Casts is more generic and allows me to pursue a wider range of podcasting tools

I was having a really hard time explaining to people the bigger vision I have for this product because the name "Clipps" was so closely associated with my singular initial idea of creating audio clips of the most popular segments of a podcast episode. But my goal is to create something bigger, something that podcasters immediately associate with quality.

  1. More tools & features makes it easier to charge $$

One thing I like about the podcasting industry is that podcasters are inherently willing to pay for high quality tools because they're already investing in their shows (hosting, microphone, etc.). On the other side though, podcast discovery apps are expected to be free (Luminary 👀). The path I was headed down with Clipps, positioning it as a podcast discovery service, was cornering myself as a freemium product. While I love that, and want to continue offering that as a feature, I'd also like to find ways to support my project financially. I think that will be much easier now.

  1. Clipps can now focus on audio clips and not full episodes

I've had a really cool idea on how to design the new Clipps app where it's focused solely around being a mobile app. At the same time, I can utilize the Casts web app to surface those same audio clips on a show/episode basis. I'll share more on Clipps at a later date...

  1. Closer alignment with other brands I'm working on

I've already got some good things going with CasterCommunity, CasterKit, CasterData, and others in the works 😉

The one thing I'm not a fan of is that, like Clipps, pronouncing the domain name is a little difficult. When talking about Clipps, I always needed to spell it out. Now with Casts, it's not quite as confusing, but I still feel the need to spell it out for people. Maybe it's the extra 's' at the end?

Aside from all this, I'm really excited about some of the new features I'm working on with this project, and I can't wait to hear what everyone thinks!
