August 1, 2020 The first pitch to top PH hunters

Was lucky to get a hold of two top hunters at Product Hunt — Kevin William David (https://producthunt.com/@kevin) and Chris Messina (https://producthunt.com/@chrismessina) at an event hosted by Airmeet.

Organizers picked two startups to do a live pitch to Kevin and we were one of them. It was actually the first-ever pitch for Clipsus and there were about 100 people on the video call. I think I was too stressed as I hate public speaking but it went well — got some valuable feedback and most importantly sort of a blessing to launch at PH.

Now trying to confirm if I'll be going with a hunter or hunting ourselves.

Found this crazy checklist for a PH launch https://www.notion.so/Product-Hunt-Launch-Checklist-82da26cc0ac04f06a9af6553de1b34bb by https://twitter.com/demtzu

And here is a list of top hunters just in case: https://yvoschaap.com/producthunt/

July 11, 2020 First banned user

It happened. The first user is banned due to inappropriate content. Porn, to be precise. Should I consider this as the beginning of our growth?

Not sure about it, still not too many users. Looking forward to seeing more and more use cases. The ability to stitch any videos together might be handy for many things.

July 5, 2020 First 100+ likes on Facebook page

Last month we were focused on gaining first users and fixing bugs.

Here's what we tried:
— engaging our personal FB audience through a series of announcements, videos, and "demo" group projects. This lead me to an idea that our bot can be used by influencers/bloggers who would want to collect UGC videos from their audience.
— trying to get attention on IH. Zero effect so far.
— addressing some chatbot communities (facebook groups, telegram groups). At least a few people gave valuable feedback.
— played around with FB ads, didn't really spend anything but found interesting targeting settings that might work for us;
— tried to contact the media by using postbag.co service, didn't do much there, but had zero effect;
— made some promo videos;
— reworked the landing page like 3 times;
— moved Clipsus to a new server;
— did three group videos myself with 20+ participants in each. Receivers were super-happy, some even cried.

June 3, 2020 Launch of beta

We can't call it an MVP since the thing works pretty well. We don't actually need to test the product itself as we know that group videos are well used.

What we need to test is the chat-based UX that is still a novelty for many FB users.

Now, where do we get the first users?

June 26, 2018 Where it all started

It all started when we were working on a birthday bot for Telegram group chats. The bot tracks birthdays within a chatgroup, privately reminds of upcoming birthdays, and collects money as a gift to the birthday person. It was obvious that together with money we need to collect birthday wishes but then decided that it should be a separate product.

The product was on the shelf for about 1,5 years, all UX was designed in October 2019, and only on June 3rd in 2020, we revealed our public beta on Facebook Messenger platform.

About

We were thinking about better ways to celebrate remote birthdays when this project came up. The mix of video and chats seemed right so we went ahead to test it.
