As a dev who's worked in various startups, I've witnessed firsthand the challenges of managing cloud resources efficiently. Did you know that 30% of cloud spend is wasted? Or that cloud computing contributes to 4% of all global greenhouse gas emissions? These statistics shocked me and inspired me to create CloudCheck.
Throughout my career, I've seen how easy it is to forget to turn off servers after they're no longer needed. I've also struggled at times with optimizing servers for efficient use. While there are solutions for large companies, small teams and startups often lack simple, accessible tools to address these issues.
That's where CloudCheck comes in. I decided to build a service that runs checks on collected server metrics. The goal? To help small teams without dedicated devops learn how to optimize their servers effectively.
The continuous audits guide teams through the process of identifying inefficiencies and implementing best practices for cloud resource management. I've successfully used the service on my own AWS account and even in my homelab setup.
Now, I'm planning to launch a free version of CloudCheck to gather user feedback. I believe that by making cloud optimization accessible to smaller teams, we can collectively reduce waste, cut costs, and minimize the environmental impact of cloud computing.
