I built CloudConsultant back in 2019 as a tool to use for myself. It's a tool to automate the validation of AWS infrastructure best practices, according to the AWS Well Architected Framework. At the time, I was doing a lot of professional services freelancing for startups that ran their infrastructure on AWS. Given how complex AWS can be, I was able to use the tool to prevent myself from making stupid mistakes which negatively impacted my customers. I went through several rounds of iterations to the tool, but could never get a UI that I really like. I hired some help to develop additional checks and improve the UI, but could never find the time to give this product the love that it deserved...until now!
I am reviving this dormant project and am going to revamp it from head to toe. Many technology improvements have come along, namely the availability of AI assisted analysis. But it wasn't the technology that failed me on the last attempt. It was the lack of sales and marketing. Originally, I was targeting businesses that used AWS to host their infrastructure, but now I want to target other freelancers like myself. This tool allows them to quickly and easily find issues in customers' AWS infrastructure that they can offer to remediate. This creates an upsell opportunity for them and helps them earn trust with their customers.
Does anyone have experience selling SaaS products to IT professional services freelancers? Am I approaching this the wrong way? I can write blogs all day long, but I'm struggling on where I should be focusing my marketing efforts to attract other freelancers. All the freelancing job sites out there focus on job posts and are not typically resources for information or productivity enhancements. Should I try and create an affiliate program with popular freelancing IT job posting sites? Should I build my own AWS infrastructure job posting site to attract visitors?
Just looking for some pointers from other indiehackers that have had success in this field.
