February 21, 2020 Silence from HN and Reddit

My posts on HN and /r/sideproject was unsuccessful. There appears to be no real interest. Oh, well, I learned a lot making it.

I posted Coddle to ProductHunt this morning, as a last-ditch effort to see if there's any interest at all. If it goes mostly unnoticed on there too, I'll put the project on ice until further notice.

February 20, 2020 Posted links on /r/sideprojects and HN

I felt comfortable enough that most obvious bugs were sorted and wanted to get the service out to my target market sooner rather than later.

So I shared on Reddit and HN, and hoped for the best...

At this stage only the free, basic account is available, but users can request to be notified when the more advanced, paid accounts would be available. I want to see if there's enough real interest in Coddle before investing too much more time into it.

My trigger point to continue with this project would be 5 requests for the paid accounts. Why 5? I dunno, thumb-suck that feels right for now.

February 18, 2020 Completed beta version and shared with friends

The first beta version I felt was remotely production-ready was completed around 17/18 Feb. I nervously shared it with friends and colleagues in order to find some of the most obvious bugs and issues.

This proved to be a good move - we found quite a few.

November 30, 2019 Came up with the idea

I was doing some brainstorming trying to come up with an idea for a side-project and thought about some of the issues me and the folks at my day-job were having.

What emerged from this process was to build a service that lets you know when your websites are off-line or their https certificates are about to expire in order to prevent down-time.
