Hey there Indie Hacker,
As you read the title, me with Rares and Marcel we took a bit of a break from developing Code News and investing time and money to make it grow.
There were a couple of changes in our personal lives that retain us from focusing more time on our side-project like getting married, moving places, ect.
But now we are regainng focus again and it FEELS SO GOOD! We are having weekly meetings and plan different features but we want to focus more on developing the iOS app and marketing in order to truly gain more users.
As for the stats, we stand at around 8.7k MAU and 400DAU with a revenue increase of about 35$ per month from Google Ads and also from the Remove Ads/Premium Subscription from the App.
Today we are proud to celebrate the fact that we reached the 5K DAU milestone. We set a milestone to reach 10k Daily Active Users by the end of this year. 🎉
This is our side project (we are working only ~10h/week on it), but with all of this, we managed to grow it organically and with some little ads (2$/day) at 4306 active devices for one month only. 📈
📲 We have 11k installs this means that around 45% of the users are finding the app useful and keep on their phones.
Also, we are currently working on some 📦 bigger features in the app like Premium Users, Users can add content, Jobs.

The app seems to bring value to 60% of the users who use the app.
As for daily active users, there are around 250 users who enter the app. We use the power of notifications to keep them up-to-date.
Future plans:
- launch login/register system
- revamp store listing and create a PR page
- increase userbase for the ios app also
- try out reddit ads and instagram influencers
- integrate programming courses and jobs

Also all traffic is organic coming from searches in Google Play. So at this rate is like around 100+ AU per month growing.
We are currently working on the V2 of the app and also the iOS version. After that we will focus our efforts into marketing and growing.
The update will come in about 1 or 2 weeks.

Since launching about 3 months ago the project has grown organically only from Search App Optimization. We really think that it has potential to grow to at least 10k AU.
If it continues this upward trend we have in plan to make some more updates to the app in order for the users to receive only notifications about the favorites coding languages.
We will launch the iOS version also in about 1 month time.

Why not make a robot that posts to social media? Make 1 account per language. Then, if I want JS news, I can just follow the channel. Host your content online and you will be cross platform instantly and you remove the hurdle of having to install an app and having specific hardware.
How to you create your content? Based on the screenshot you have many articles each day.

That's a pretty unique idea :D I think that by having an app on your phone you have a more personal relathionship with your users and it validates the product a bit more. If one person doesn't like the app anymore he/she simply uninstalls it.
Currently we have a bunch of sources where the API fetches the top news from each and groups them into categories.

For us it was pure luck. I think we use good keywords in the title and description - "Code News - News for Programmers" and maybe the icon and the screens shots helped too, but we don't really know what exactly grow our daily traffic. It is not much but it's growing organically. We are very curious to see how long it will remain on this path of growing.
