Code Your Own T-shirt

Create your own t-shirt design using JavaScript

I verified that I could create a simple JavaScript editor which executes the code in React, and also looked into whether I could integrate with Redbubble via their API. The JavaScript editor worked, but Redbubble doesn't appear to support any public APIs - in fact it's pretty clear they don't want any robots submitting artwork.

So rather than integrating with Rebubble automatically, I've decided to manually upload any artwork that users chose to share.

In the end I launched a static site hosted on AWS with a simple Django backend.

Hey Matt! Congrats on the launch. That’s a pretty impressive idea-to-mvp execution speed! :)

August 23, 2019 Came up with my idea

I was driving home from an outdoors trip and I was trying to think of a silly e-commerce example for a tech talk, and then I eventually realised that designing your own t-shirt with JavaScript would be a fun website for programmers. I started hacking on it when I got home

October 16, 2018 Coded my own t-shirt

I found out about Redbubble and got pretty excited with the idea of using some sort of line-based finite automata to create a t-shirt design. I had read a blog post by Stephen Wolfram and I really liked the patterns generated by one of the automata he described.

I enjoyed creating my own code-generated t-shirt and wanted to help you make one too. I think it's a great to be able to customize the things we use and wear every day.
