#1 Product of the Day on ProductHunt!

Okay, this is weird... CoderNotes.io launched five days ago. But today, for whatever reason, I woke up to hundreds of new users to the application.

It seems that, somehow, CoderNotes.io has become the top app of the day on ProductHunt!

Well, I’m not one to look a gift horse in the mouth! I’ll add an update when all the craziness is over!

How did you make that promo video? Looks really good

    1. 1

Thanks, this was done via a contractor on Fiverr who does semi-custom work. I'm pretty happy with the result!

What is the tech stack of your web app?

      1. 1

The design is pretty slick and I love the product, it is fast. Did you design everything? or bought a template.

        1. 1

Thanks, have you made an account or was just browsing? I'm trying to talk to as many of my customers as I can right now and narrow-in on who gets the most value out of it.

For design, I used tailwindUI, so it is a mix of pre-built components and custom CSS.

    🎉 congrats.
Same happened with my product on PH, six days later after posting.
    Still wondering why 🤔

    1. 1

Thanks! I did end up asking PH support and got this response:

Sometimes the algorithms selects posts from previous days, that weren't featured but showed promise.

      1. 1

I bet it's just hand picked few times a week.
It's nice that you have asked them, I just thought I'm that lucky 😅

  4. 1

That's awesome! Congrats. I hope you'll have the time to keep us posted on your challenges and wins as you grow. I've been using CoderNotes a bit and really like it.

A browser extension to clip code notes and auto fill language and link would be nice. I find myself searching for solutions and thinking I need to come back and add this page to my codernotes, but rarely do.

    1. 1

That's a great idea! Mind throwing it on the roadmap?

Also, mind if I pick your brain about CoderNotes via email?

      1. 1

Just added it. Email me anytime.

        1. 1

Sent to your icloud, and thanks!

Just to tie off this thread in a nice little ribbon, I got an official response from ProductHunt as to what happened:

Sometimes the algorithms selects posts from previous days, that weren't featured but showed promise.

In other words, I lucked out :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks a ton to everyone who supported the surprise re-launch yesterday! CoderNotes.io ended up at #2 on PH, with 285 upvotes!

(I'll be writing up the results once the traffic starts to die down again!)

This is interesting. Is it supposed to work as a sort of note respository for all devs? Or just teams? Or just personal?

    1. 1

      It has all three :)

All devs: share public notes and learnings for free.

Personal: private notes visible only to you ($5/mo)

Teams: Notes for developers that can shared between your team, but not visible to the general public ($99/10 devs)

It’s still too early for the product to figure out where the main source of revenue is going to come from. Right now it’s almost exclusively individuals

I brought a domain commit.fun to do similar thing for git commands with a nice search engine. Never got time to work on it.

    Excellent product and execution, goodluck.

    1. 1

Thank you! That’s exactly the type of pain I am trying to solve with CoderNotes.io :)

  8. 1

I must say, this is a really good idea!

    1. 1

Thanks Troy! I’d love to hear what aspect in particular you find the most interesting

      1. 2

The fact I can store code snippets in a central location, and easily look it up for future use. I've kind of used Trello for this, but for commands I regularly use in the command line.

        1. 1

Love hearing this, because it’s exactly what I felt was missing from other note managers, and the main reason I made CoderNotes.io!

Since then, it’s also become about sharing knowledge with the dev community, but the core use-case remains. Thanks for checking it out'

  9. 1

I can give you some deep feedback related to the UI/UX in exchange on your feedback to my product :) Interested? :)

Btw indeed I like the idea, but what about comparing to github gists for example?

    1. 2

I have a section in the FAQ about gists :)

      Q: What about Github Gists?

The power of CoderNotes comes not only from the ability to easily store snippets, but to instantly find them as well. CoderNotes has a powerful search engine that allows it to determine the intent behind what you're searching, and find the exact snippet that you or a team member wrote for it. Gists, while great, focuses on small code snippets that are maintained in a list, and cannot be associated with your team as a whole.

      1. 1

Ah okay :) Nice one then!

  10. 1

Congratulations Kevin, the product looks super useful! :)

    1. 1

Thank you! I’m pretty happy with how far the app has come :)
