January 19, 2020 New Blog Series

As part of my growth/SEO push, I've started publishing a new blog series on career change. I've interviews previous coding Bootcamp alumni and shared their stories. See the first and second here.

I'm keeping to my Q1 goal of one blog post a week. Not seeing any changes in my website numbers yet though.

December 16, 2019 Mobile Updates

Product Update - I've mobile optimised the key pages for the website. I realised most of the traffic I get at the moment is from my Twitter shares, so people land on my site on smaller screens. I spent the weekend making it look way better on smaller screens. Probably something I should have done much sooner, but was trying to keep the MVP lean. Excited to see how people respond.

Marketing Update - I solved a problem with trailing slashes causing Google to consider all my pages as duplicates. It's been harder to keep up with publishing content. To be honest, it was a bit of a non-start with one blog post published. I need to improve on this massively to give the SEO a chance.

November 2, 2019 Day 0 - Starting Marketing

Over the last two weeks I've done a deep dive on SEO (thanks Moz) and begun to strategise how I can setup my site for organic traffic. I'm starting to make changes and build a content pipeline that I think will be useful for my users. I'm setup with Google Console and Google Analytics in order to track my progress. This will be my first attempt at building traffic for a site in an intentional way, so I'm considering this day 0. Let' s see how it goes!

Congratulations, you’ve started on a long, hard, and possibly very rewarding journey.

There are many things to take into consideration when you’re doing content marketing. Good content is just one of them. In many cases, it’s the least of them because of all the other factors that go into ranking in search engines.

If this is your first time out, there one thing I’d like to share that it took me forever to learn -topical authority is the key to ranking.

I’d say it’s more important than website authority in many cases. That’s why you can find certain sites ranking well for super competitive terms when they’re not “supposed” to be anywhere next to the top of the SERPs.

    Topical authority is pretty simple.

You create content around specific topics. Instead of writing about how to take care of cats today and dogs tomorrow, you talk about how to take care of dogs for a few weeks (or months) so Google can understand that’s what your site is about.

Then you move on to cats.

It a bit more complicated than that but that’s the main gist of it.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback. 100% - making it mobile-friendly is the next big thing on my to-do list. I've purposefully been releasing early and frequently so I skipped mobile-responsiveness in my MVP. But I'm very aware that it needs doing urgently!

September 20, 2019 Deployed MVP!

I tried to keep the MVP lean (learning from past mistakes!). It's just a simple display of the key data points across Bootcamps. I plan to add search, filter and sort functionality next.

I always forget how difficult it is to come up with a colour scheme and "branding".

September 15, 2019 Building in Public

I decided to build this one in public:

  1. Because I thought it would be fun
  2. Because at heart its a community product and I thought it would be cool to get the community involved.

I'll be using Twitter to share progress on the build as well as validate features.

September 14, 2019 Started working on codewithbootcamps.com

Lot's of people were asking me for my opinions on the best coding Bootcamp. So I thought I'd put together a site to answer that question.

I did a bunch of Google Keyword research to find a good name, but in all honestly it didn't help too much, so I settled for this.

Then I came up with a quick design of the key data points I wanted to cover and got building.

About

As a Bootcamp grad, I get asked a lot about which ones are the best. I made a website to answer that question.
