AI cold emails that don't sound like cold emails

January 14, 2026 Day 6: Final push before I kill this idea

0 real signups. The 2 I thought I had turned out to be bots (random gmail addresses with dots and numbers).

Did 10 Twitter replies today, posted a spicy take about the cold email industry being a pyramid scheme, replied to an r/Entrepreneur thread about cold outreach.

Tomorrow is day 7. If nothing changes, I'm killing it.

The learning was worth it - figured out how to actually engage on Twitter, how to handle Reddit feedback, and most importantly: how to recognize when an idea isn't getting pull.

Next idea will be something with less AI competition. Lesson learned.

January 13, 2026 Day 5: Still at 2 signups. Posting anyway.

5 days in. 2 signups. Every piece of feedback circles back to the same thing: "Why would I pay for this when ChatGPT exists?"

I don't have a good answer. "It's faster" isn't compelling enough. "It's on LinkedIn" isn't either. Clay just integrated with ChatGPT. The timing is brutal.

Starting to think the cold email AI space is cooked. Everyone's building the same thing. The differentiation is marginal. Maybe the play is to find a wedge nobody's thought of yet, or accept this idea is dead and move on.

Anyone else killed an idea at the validation stage? How did you know it was time?

January 12, 2026 Day 4: Building the routine

No new signups today. Reddit threads have run their course, got the feedback I needed from those.

Focused on Twitter, replying to cold email conversations, asking questions, staying visible. Not expecting quick wins, just trying to be consistent.

Still validating before building anything.

January 11, 2026 Day 3: Still at 2 signups, but learning

No new signups today.

What I did: 5 Twitter replies in the cold email space, posted first product tweet with link. Checked Reddit threads - someone mentioned Clay is now integrated into ChatGPT. Good competitive intel.

Workflow speed might not be enough of a differentiator. Still figuring out the angle.

Not building yet - validating first.

January 10, 2026 Day 2: Got roasted on Reddit, pivoted positioning

Posted on r/SaaS asking for landing page feedback. Got destroyed.

"Why not just use ChatGPT?" "Looks like it was made in 10 minutes." "$79/mo for this?"

They're right. "AI writes cold emails" is too generic. ChatGPT does that.

Pivoted: Now it's a Chrome extension that works on LinkedIn profiles. One click, email appears in 3 seconds. The moat isn't smarter AI - it's zero friction.

Also set up Twitter (@git_blame_alex) and started engaging in the cold email space

January 9, 2026 Day 1 - Built a landing page, validating the idea

Building ColdGoat- AI that writes cold emails from a LinkedIn URL.

The problem: Writing personalized cold emails takes forever. Most people either send generic templates (ignored) or spend 10+ mins per email (doesn't scale).

The idea: Paste a LinkedIn profile -> get a personalized email in 10 seconds that sounds like you wrote it.

Day 1: Landing page is live. Collecting early access signups. No product yet - validating if people actually want this before building.

Goal: 50 signups before I write a line of product code.

What do you think - would you pay $79/mo for this?

About

Cold emails are broken. They all sound the same - robotic, templated, ignored. I'm building a tool that writes personalized emails that actually sound human.
