Lost interest and shut down

Over the course of 2018 I began to loose interest in CommitLint. I had about 20 (non-paying) users but I wasn't sure how many of those were actually using the product.

I knew that I wasn't marketing the product well and I knew that I shouldn't expect a flood of user without any sales/marketing efforts but I didn't know how to proceed.

I decided to turn off CommitLint and focus on other projects.

    Good job on the shutdown.

I know the not-sure-users-are-using-the-product feeling from the past, which is why I’m now trying to engineer a feedback loop into everything I do.

New feature? What data do I need to track to assess it? What does success and failure look like in data?
It’s a process worth investing in.

Thanks @vitabenes. I’ve re-launched now :). I’ll try to focus more on sales/marketing and feedback loops

Was it taking an effort to leave it running?

@alchemist not particularly but I was paying a small AWS bill. I guess it just felt like a waste. However, I eventually decided to re-launch the project and give it more attention (see my latest milestone)

I had this scenario also, however thinking in retrospect, I would now interview all those users to find out why they are still using it, what excites them about the product, what not, and go from there. However if you've completely lost interest in the project, then it's better to shut it down for good and never regret.

Thanks @artjom. Yeah I completely agree. I decided to re-launch the product (see my latest milestone) and focus more on users/marketing/sales

This does happen (happened to me).
